Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Solaris System Administrator with strong expertise in Unix infrastructure administration, platform modernization, and Solaris-to-Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) migration initiatives. The ideal candidate will be responsible for administering enterprise Solaris and Linux environments while leading infrastructure transformation activities, including assessment, discovery, application dependency mapping, migration planning, platform modernization, build automation, and production support.

This role requires deep technical expertise in Solaris administration, Linux engineering, infrastructure automation, virtualization technologies, middleware integration, and enterprise production support within mission-critical environments.

Required Technical/Functional Skills
  • Strong hands-on experience in Solaris 10/11 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) system administration.

  • Administer and support Solaris and RHEL environments across Development, Test, UAT, DR, and Production environments.

  • Experience with Solaris Zones, Containers, Logical Domains (LDOMs), and virtualization technologies.

  • Perform operating system installation, configuration, patching, hardening, upgrades, and lifecycle management.

  • Expertise in system performance tuning, troubleshooting, capacity planning, and health monitoring.

  • Strong knowledge of ZFS, NFS, UFS, volume management, storage allocation, and file system administration.

  • Experience with infrastructure automation and scripting using Shell, Python, or Ansible.

  • Good understanding of enterprise middleware integration and application hosting on Unix/Linux platforms.

  • Knowledge of security best practices, compliance standards, and OS hardening.

  • Experience with monitoring, incident management, root cause analysis, and production support.

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Administer, maintain, and support enterprise Solaris 10/11 and RHEL server environments.

  • Lead Solaris-to-RHEL migration projects, including infrastructure assessment, workload analysis, and migration planning.

  • Perform application discovery, dependency mapping, and compatibility assessments for migration activities.

  • Design and execute migration strategies with minimal business disruption and downtime.

  • Build, configure, and automate server provisioning using infrastructure automation tools and scripting.

  • Manage Solaris Zones, LDOMs, Containers, and virtualization platforms to optimize resource utilization.

  • Perform OS installation, patch management, security hardening, upgrades, and vulnerability remediation.

  • Administer storage, ZFS, NFS, file systems, and volume management to ensure high availability and performance.

  • Monitor system performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement performance optimization initiatives.

  • Collaborate with application, middleware, storage, network, and database teams during migration and modernization projects.

  • Support Disaster Recovery (DR) planning, testing, and execution activities.

  • Troubleshoot complex production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement preventive measures.

  • Prepare and maintain system documentation, operational procedures, migration runbooks, and technical standards.

  • Ensure infrastructure complies with organizational security, governance, and regulatory requirements.

  • Participate in on-call support and maintenance activities for mission-critical production environments.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

  • 6+ years of experience in Solaris and Unix/Linux system administration.

  • Experience with enterprise-scale Solaris modernization and cloud migration initiatives is highly desirable.

  • Familiarity with automation tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or similar Infrastructure-as-Code solutions.

  • Experience with enterprise monitoring tools and ITIL-based operational processes.

  • Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
