Job description

Entarian is seeking a highly experienced Software Engineer II (Linux Administrator). This role will work to support the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) providing IT core management components and service areas, including cross-cutting services that support the government through system design, development, fielding, and sustainment of global NOAA IT needs. 

Position is on-site 5 days a week in College Park MD 

Salary range- $60,000-$65,000. 

The Software Engineer II (Linux Administrator) must be able to support the following responsibilities:

  • Provide Red Hat Linux Enterprise Operations & Maintenance (O&M) support activities
  • Develop, troubleshoot, and execute Ansible playbooks throughout the enterprise using Ansible Automation capabilities
  • Deep understanding of Linux operating systems (i.e. Redhat, CentOS, Ubuntu, Oracle Linux, etc.)
  • Develop, implement, and enforce processes and SOPs for O&M and incident response
  • Manage and maintain Linux server infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance and reliability
  • Proficient in Linux system administration with a focus on Red Hat (3+ years of experience)
  • Familiarity with IT Operations Monitoring Tools such as CheckMK, Big Brother
  • Perform routine system updates, patch management, and system optimization
  • Responsible for configuring and troubleshooting software and application systems as assigned
  • Manage and maintain Linux servers and workstations ensuring their optimal performance, security, and reliability
  • Monitors system health and configurations to ensure system health and functionality as well as remediate problems/issues in a timely manner
  • Scripting skills (e.g., Bash, PowerShell, Python)
  • Leveraging Gitlab and Ansible playbooks for operational changes
  • Install applications (COTS/GOTS) and perform system upgrades & migrations
  • Experience with monitoring tool such as Big Brother, CheckMK configuration for newly built systems
  • Implemented and maintain secure, minimally-interrupted operations of Linux servers and workstations
  • Implement and enforce security best practices for both Linux systems and workstations
  • Experience supporting and maintaining network storage (Netapp)
  • Proficiency in vulnerability assessment tools (Tenable Nessus, Qualys etc.), analyzing and interpreting the vulnerability assessment results
  • Managing user accounts, via, AIX, Akamai, IDM, Grafana, permissions or local accounts
  • Resolving problems for all in house software such as , Nvidia, Tectia, CAC VPN\
  • Leverage Red Hat Satellite 6 to create newly built systems with subscriptions
  • Able to partition disks, create logical volumes, create file systems and mount file systems
  • Be a customer advocate by consistently meeting, exceeding expectations and incorporating customer service into all aspects of work

  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance. Proof of U.S. citizenship is required for eligibility
  • Experience building, configuring, installing server/workstation(s) using Foreman and Red Hat Satellite 6
  • Must have keen attention to detail and excellent communication skills.
  • Must have 2 years experience with Linux system administration with a focus on Red Hat
  • Requires a knowledge of one or more elements or parts of a supply system, or of supply methods, policies, or procedures
  • Must be able to work independently to execute against sets of procedures and be able to lift 60 pounds..
  • Strong hands-on experience with Linux, Windows, Active Directory, VMWare

  • Experience with Sunflower Property management software is a plus.
