Linux Competency: Installation, configuration, command-line proficiency, and package management
Scripting Experience: Ability to script administrative tasks in Bash, Python, Perl, or other similar languages
Productivity Tools: Proficiency with Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Teams, or similar applications
Hardware Support: Ability to troubleshoot basic hardware failures and apply repairs
Preferred Skills:
HPC System Support: Scheduler management, code compilation, and multi-node application support
Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or related curriculum required or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Position Purpose:
Assist other staff in the High Performance Computing (HPC) group of the Advanced Computing Technologies (ACT) department in providing operational support for the HPC environment. Drawing upon the operating plan and following the guidance of more senior HPC technical staff to leverage enabling technologies to meet the desired goals, objectives and strategies of the Computational Fluid Dynamics, Simulation, modeling and overall engineering business areas. Assist other HPC staff with the optimum integration of scientific applications with high performance computing technology.
Job Description
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
Essential Functions:
  1. Diagnoses and repairs hardware related issues in the HPC environment.
  2. Reviews and responds to helpdesk tickets.
  3. Maintains the HPC environment documentation.
  4. Attends webinars, conference and other events to gain additional knowledge of High Performance Computing.
  5. Responds to monitoring system alerts in a timely fashion, engaging more senior technical staff as necessary.
  6. Writes scripts in PERL, BASH, Python and other appropriate scripting languages.
  7. Assists in the review of HPC Requests For Proposals (RFPs) and vendor responses for accuracy and completeness.
  8. Assists senior technical staff during data center upgrades and outages.
  9. Assume responsibility for tasks as assigned within the HPC team .
  10. Monitor and control interactive and batch processes, both scheduled and unscheduled (including on-request processing).
  11. Assist in the performance of proactive failure trend analysis.
  12. Follow predetermined action and escalation procedures when issues are encountered.
  13. Assists in the introduction of new technologies that can provide greater capabilities, improved productivity or reduce total cost of ownership.

Additional Functions:
  1. Maintain technical relationships with multiple hardware and software vendors. .
  2. Work multiple operational windows as required. to support business objectives. .
  3. Provide on-call support 24x7. .
  4. Assists the senior technical staff with the research of emerging HPC technologies. .
  5. Assists with performing proofs of concept and prototyping solutions, if applicable. .

Perform other duties as assigned.
Other Requirements:
  1. Familiarity with installation and configuration and maintenance of RedHat Package Manager (RPM) based Linux distributions (RedHat, SuSE) preferred.
  2. Exposure to the management of Linux-based HPC clusters preferred.
This job requires one to be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
