Linux Build Engineer (Onprem and Cloud)
Location: Dallas, TX
Employment Type: Contract to Perm
Summary:
The team is seeking an experienced Linux Build Engineer to support enterprise platform build, automation, and cloud infrastructure initiatives. This role focuses on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) builds, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and AWS-based provisioning using Terraform. The engineer will partner with application development, business teams, and cloud platform groups to deliver secure, compliant, and scalable infrastructure aligned with teams standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Build, configure, and support Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems across enterprise and cloud environments
Design and maintain Linux build and provisioning processes using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles
Develop and maintain Ansible-based automation for OS builds, configuration management, and operational consistency
Implement and support AWS infrastructure builds using Terraform, including EC2- based Linux workloads
Provision, configure, and support AWS EC2 instances following enterprise architecture and security standards
Understand, implement, and troubleshoot AWS Security Groups, including ingress/egress rules and layered access models
Support Linux workloads deployed on VMware vCenter and hybrid infrastructure platforms
Apply Chef configuration management concepts (familiarity required) to support standardization and automation
Ensure systems adhere to security, compliance, and baseline configuration metrics, supporting audit and regulatory requirements
Analyze and clearly articulate technical challenges, risks, and constraints to engineering leadership and stakeholders
Partner with business teams and application development (AD) to gather requirements and translate them into technical solutions
Track and manage work using Jira, contributing stories and delivery transparency within Agile workflows
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on automation, reliability, IaC maturity, and operational excellence
Required Qualifications:
8-10 years of enterprise Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) experience
Strong hands-on experience with Ansible automation
Proven experience adhering to Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices
Hands-on experience with Terraform for AWS infrastructure builds
Practical experience provisioning and supporting AWS EC2 instances
Solid understanding of AWS Security Groups and network access controls
Experience supporting workloads in VMware vCenter / virtualized environments
Familiarity with Chef configuration management
Strong understanding of compliance, configuration baselines, and operational metrics
Ability to communicate technical challenges clearly to technical and non-technical audiences
Experience collaborating with business stakeholders and application development teams
Hands-on experience using Jira for Agile delivery and story tracking
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
Preferred / Advantageous Qualifications:
Familiarity with Windows build and provisioning processes
Experience operating in regulated and security-focused enterprise environments
Exposure to hybrid cloud operating models and enterprise AWS platforms
Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD, and automation-driven delivery models
