The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Setting the Stage:

Leads the development of strategic compensation initiatives, practices and programs for RWJBarnabas Health. Ensures the quality, compliance, competitiveness, and cost effectiveness of compensation programs.

As a Compensation Manager, a typical day might include:

  • Managing Compensation Specialists and other ancillary professionals, providing guidance and support to ensure the organization attracts, develops and retains top talent
  • Being responsible for the direction, design, implementation, and administration of innovative and competitive compensation programs
  • Ensuring proper mix of short and long range strategies to support, organize objectives
  • Identifying emerging workforce issues related to compensation and recommend changes to programs/practices as appropriate
  • Analyzing and develops company compensation in relation to government wage and hour regulations
  • Regularly reviewing compensation strategies which affect salary budgets, proposals and recommends changes to existing compensation programs
  • Providing analysis and guidance for market/merit adjustments and options, manage job analysis and pricing, and handle all special compensation issues
  • Handling salary research and survey compilations
  • Evaluating market salary rates with respect to compensation levels for the organization
  • Developing recommendations for bonus, incentive and other alternative pay practices
  • Working with Human Resources, Payroll and Corporate HCM staff to effect changes as necessary
  • Acting as internal consultant on compensation plans and issues
  • Facilitating program design between line management and senior leadership to ensure programs are business-objective based
  • Providing coaching to line management and HR Vice Presidents on relevant and applicable compensation programs and practices
  • Consulting with all levels of management regarding compensation strategies related to attraction, motivation and retention of employees
  • Interfacing with line manager as needed to provide guidance for overall compensation decisions
  • Facilitating management training in region-wide compensation related communication plans
  • Facilitating and supports compensation management for RWJBH, including the management of special compensation projects as needed

To Be Considered for this Opportunity: 

A Masters degree in human resources, business, behavioral sciences or related discipline preferred. You must have a minimum of 8-10 years of experience in leading a compensation function preferred. Solid, proven experience in a variety of compensation and consulting plans/programs. Experience in designing and administering pay plans, market pricing and analysis, salary budget development. Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent attention to detail, analytical and organizational skills. Knowledge of human resources laws, regulations, and compensation best practices. Strong process improvement and financial management expertise. Self-motivated and able to work independently or as part of a cross functional team. Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with all levels of management and staff. Experience with HR/payroll system PeopleSoft preferred. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Access, Excel), Visio, Microsoft Project.
