Job Summary
The part-time Utility Lineman Helper will plan, develop, and conduct all activities related to Utility Line students obtaining a Class A CDL with no restrictions. Work involves planning, designing, organizing, conducting, and evaluating educational and training needs of this program and industry. Must be able to analyze industry present and future needs and be able to develop and prepare training programs to meet these needs. Works under minimal supervision with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Duties/Responsibilities
  • Plans, develops, and maintain course curriculum to meet industry needs and to comply with all relevant rules and regulations of the commercial trucking industry.
  • Conducts practical training consisting of primarily range and street training for Class A.
  • Schedules and coordinates all components of CDL testing.
  • Implement both classroom and practical training and evaluations for Class A operators.
  • Requests and/or verifies motor vehicle registration history and Department of Transportation physical and drug screen prior enrollment.
  • Help to provide and maintain adequate facilities, equipment, and materials used for training
  • Coordinates any off-site or customized training for any contracted agency, business or industry
  • Maintains accurate and confidential student/class records
  • Maintains accurate maintenance and inspection records on training vehicles and equipment
  • Meets with lead instructor on daily basis to discuss training activities
  • Maintains good working relationships with business and industry advisory council

Minimum/Preferred Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must possess class "A" CDL with no restrictions

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5 Years commercial driving experience; or a combination of 10 years driving/training experience. Must also have a good driving record

Supplemental Information
Physical Requirements:
This position requires the ability to: remain in a stationary position for most of the time; occasionally move about inside an office to access documents, office equipment, etc.; constantly operate a computer or other office equipment, such as a printer or copy machine; frequently work in outdoor weather conditions; and frequently move items and equipment typically found in a law enforcement environment, up to 50 lbs.
