Job description

What You'll Do:
Responsiblefor ensuring drivers remain in compliance with Department of Transportation(DOT) regulations and USX policy in one or more of the following safety areas:drug/alcohol testing, physical standards, CDL licensing and certifications,motor vehicle reports, DOT inspections, hazardous material transportation, driverlogs, and motor vehicle citations. 
Request, coordinate, and/or review driver qualification records or testing requirements within the timelines specified in DOT regulations and USX policy. These records / requirements would include, but not limited to: Motor Vehicle Records, DOT Inspection Reports, DOT Annual Reviews, DOT Physical Exams, Commercial Driver's Licenses, Citations, Drug and Alcohol Testing Records, Driver Logs, Vehicle Maintenance Records and Documents required by Company Policy.
Review driver safety information against USX policy or DOT regulations & determine if driver is in compliance with DOT regulations and USX policy.
Issue authorization or denial for driver to return to work based on current validity of credentials and/or compliance with DOT regulations and USX policy; notify management when driver is not in compliance.
Audit driver qualification records in accordance with DOT and company guidelines; immediately notify Operations and Safety Management of any driver determined to be out of compliance with DOT regulations and/or company guidelines.
Notify drivers and/or Operations personnel in advance of any driver whose credentials/qualifications are scheduled to expire in the near future.Provide specific instructions on what is needed to maintain credentials/qualifications and assist as necessary to prevent lapses.
Review and check logs and qualification files for random and DOT audits.
Review driver logs to confirm DOT compliance. Confirm proper completion of logs, evaluate truck speed, review driver hours of service, check fuel stops, and review other regulatory items.
Counsel and advise drivers on proper log completion; identify drivers that require log training and work with fleet management to schedule driver for training classes.
Answer questions and provide assistance to those calling the Safety line.Maintain availability for handling incoming calls throughout entire shift.
Respond appropriately and timely to email correspondence submitted to the Safety Department distribution groups.
Record and notate safety data in driver file and/or AS400.
Interface with Fleet Management and drivers to retrieve data, discuss safety issues, and coordinate drug/alcohol or physical standards testing as required by DOT regulations and/or USX policy.
Prepare routine safety correspondence and distribute to relevant parties.
Create and maintain safety files.
May make a preliminary determination on driver responsibility for driving citations.
Educate drivers on mistakes they have made and how to avoid repeat DOT violations.
Evaluate driver violations on a case-by-case basis. Determine if a disciplinary write up is appropriate.
Update driver profile after any extended absence.Issue authorization or denial for driver to return to work.
Advise drivers and Operations on loads with hazardous materials for compliance with regulations.
Collect facts, statements, and information for safety or HR investigations; coordinate efforts with law enforcement if necessary and communicate findings to management.
Assist drivers in troubleshooting basic technical problems with DriverTech on-board devices.
Work with Maintenance to verify Event Recorders are installed in the proper location.
Make sound judgements and decisions in situations involving the safety and welfare of USX employees and general public.
Will often be required to work extended coverage hours.
Perform other duties as assigned.
