What is a LIMS Data Entry?

A LIMS Data Entry job involves entering, updating, and managing data within a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). Professionals in this role are responsible for accurately inputting laboratory test results, sample information, and other relevant data to ensure the integrity and traceability of laboratory records. They often work closely with laboratory staff and may also help in verifying data, generating reports, and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards. Attention to detail, familiarity with laboratory processes, and strong computer skills are essential for success in this position.

What are some common challenges faced by LIMS Data Entry professionals and how can they be effectively managed?

LIMS Data Entry professionals often encounter challenges such as managing large volumes of data, ensuring high levels of accuracy, and keeping up with strict deadlines. To effectively manage these, it is important to develop a systematic workflow, regularly double-check entries, and utilize built-in validation tools provided by the LIMS platform. Collaboration with laboratory staff and IT teams can also help resolve discrepancies quickly and maintain data integrity.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a LIMS Data Entry specialist?

To thrive as a LIMS Data Entry specialist, you need strong attention to detail, data accuracy, and familiarity with laboratory information management systems (LIMS), often supported by a high school diploma or relevant experience. Proficiency in LIMS software, basic database management, and Microsoft Office Suite is typically required. Excellent organizational skills, time management, and effective communication help ensure smooth workflow and collaboration with laboratory staff. These skills are essential for maintaining data integrity, supporting laboratory operations, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

What is the difference between Lims Data Entry vs Laboratory Technician?

Job description

Other locations: San Francisco Bay Area, Tri-state Area (NY, NJ, PA), RTP (NC)

We are seeking a Laboratory Informatics Consultant with hands-on experience implementing and supporting enterprise LIMS platforms such as LabWare, LabVantage, or similar systems. This role is focused on delivering samplecentric LIMS solutions, supporting the full sample lifecycle in regulated laboratory environments. Consultants in this role are expected to be able to operate independently on medium-complexity projects as well as collaborating with a global support team on larger projects.

As a consultant on our team, you will work with pharmaceutical, biotech, CRO, and regulated laboratory environments to design, configure, and deploy informatics solutions that improve data integrity, compliance, and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate understands how laboratories operate day to day and can design LIMS solutions that support compliant, efficient, and traceable laboratory workflows, while also configuring supporting entities such as instruments and inventory as needed.

Requirements

  • Lead or support requirements gathering with laboratory stakeholders, emphasizing endtoend sample lifecycle management
  • Analyze laboratory processes related to sample receipt, testing, review, approval, and disposition
  • Translate business and regulatory requirements into LIMS functional designs and configuration specifications
  • Configure LIMS solutions ( LabVantage) independently or as part of a national or global team to support:
    • Sample login, accessioning, and chain of custody
    • Test assignment, execution, calculations, and result entry
    • Specifications, limits, and result evaluation
    • Review, approval, release, and reporting workflows
  • Configure supporting LIMS entities required for sample workflows, including tests, methods, materials, products, and locations
  • Configure instrument and inventory data as required to support compliant sample testing
  • Develop and execute system testing and validation deliverables (IQ/OQ/PQ, test scripts, traceability matrices)
  • Support user acceptance testing and defect resolution
  • Assist with production deployment and golive activities
  • Provide postimplementation support focused on sample processing, results management, and workflow execution
  • Troubleshoot issues impacting sample lifecycle workflows and data integrity
  • Deliver enduser training and documentation
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, compliance, and usability within the LIMS

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience working with laboratory informatics systems LabVantage.
  • Strong experience implementing and supporting sample lifecycle management in LIMS
  • Solid understanding of laboratory workflows (QC, analytical, stability, manufacturing, or R\&D)
  • Experience working in regulated environments (GxP, FDA, ISO; ALCOA+ principles)
  • Strong communication skills and experience working directly with laboratory and QA stakeholders
  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific, technical, or related field

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on laboratory experience or a background in chemistry or biology
  • Experience with complex sample models (e.g., stability programs, highvolume QC, or multisite labs)
  • System validation and CSV documentation experience
  • Exposure to LIMS integrations or configuration scripting
  • Consulting or clientfacing experience
  • Experience supporting instrument or inventory data in the context of sample workflows, rather than assetcentric implementations
  • Experience working across multiple informatics systems (e.g., LIMS, ELN, CDS, SDMS)
