Job description

Our Direct Client has a new Senior Manager of Lightwave Technology job. The Senior Manager of Lightwave Technology manages a team of highly skilled electro/optical engineers to research, design, develop, prototype, test, and transfer to manufacture Clients next generation high reliability undersea products, including repeaters, branching units, and ROADMs. The role is responsible for synthesizing novel undersea network element architecture and designs based on state-of-the-art high-reliability optical components.ย  The role is expected to confer with senior managers, program managers, undersea technologists and engineers, production engineers, as well as leading component suppliers to ensure project deliverables and objectives are being met. ย The role will also be responsible for administering the R&D optical development process and resource utilization to achieve established project timelines. ย 

Responsibilitiesย 

  • Be an overall technical leader for undersea optical product design and prototyping activities from concept through delivery to customers.
  • Manage all undersea optical amplifier design activities in support of Clients project needs. ย 
  • Lead cross-functional project and problem-solving teams, integration of optical, electronic, mechanical, and firmware, while providing system design expertise.
  • Participate in requirements development and design reviews.
  • Produce manufacturing test requirements for undersea network elements, ability to analyze production test data and participate in disposition activities related to product test issues
  • Initiate and develop relationships with internal partners and external suppliers.
  • Cooperate with field installation teams to ensure proper installation and operation of deployed equipment.

Qualifications

Qualificationsย 

  • Advanced Degree (MS or PhD) in Optics/Electrical Engineering/Physics or equivalent experience.
  • Advanced skills in fiber optical engineering, including deep understanding of EDFA principles, with previous hands-on experience in EDFA design
  • Experience in Fiber Optic/Electronic testing, lab test set automation, qualification, and reliability standards.
  • Ability to lead a team of diverse highly skilled technical professionals in design of new products.
  • Ability to plan projects, assess risks, and develop risk mitigation strategies.
  • Candidate should be self-starter, dedicated, and flexible as workload is varied.
  • Strong ability to communicate problems and issues, as well as to summarize and explain results.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to understand basic electronics including schematics is a plus.
