Le Lead du Lighting est responsable de diriger les equipes de lighting et de compositing afin de delivrer le look souhaite et la qualite visuelle d'un long metrage d'animation. Ce role assure la continuite de la vision artistique tout au long de la production, tout en gerant les defis techniques et de production. 

Responsabilites:
  • Superviser l'equipe de lighting afin d'atteindre le style visuel souhaite pour le long metrage d'animation, en respectant la direction artistique du projet.
  • Assurer et maintenir la qualite, la coherence et la continuite de l'eclairage a travers tous les plans du film.
  • Collaborer etroitement avec le Superviseur CG pour evaluer la faisabilite technique des designs d'eclairage, en proposant des solutions adaptees aux contraintes de production, tout en respectant la vision du realisateur.
  • Participer a la repartition des taches en concertation avec le Realisateur et le Superviseur CG, en tenant compte des competences et des forces de chaque artiste afin d'optimiser le flux de travail.
  • Revoir regulierement le travail des artistes lighting, fournir des retours constructifs, et valider les plans avant soumission au Realisateur.
  • Guider et encadrer l'equipe lighting pour atteindre le look souhaite, en equilibrant les exigences artistiques avec les contraintes de production (temps, budget, ressources).
  • Collaborer avec les departements connexes (compositing, FX, surfacing, layout, etc.) pour assurer une integration harmonieuse de l'eclairage dans les plans finaux.
  • Identifier et resoudre les defis techniques et creatifs lies a l'eclairage, en garantissant des resultats de haute qualite au service de la narration et de l'emotion.
  • Garantir la continuite visuelle des sequences, en veillant a la coherence du style d'eclairage sur l'ensemble du film.
  • Travailler avec la gestion de production pour s'assurer du respect des delais et du budget, et proposer des ajustements si necessaire pour maintenir les objectifs de production.
  • Developper et superviser le pipeline de lighting : methodologies, outils, planning, ressources et assignations.
  • Maintenir une documentation claire et a jour pour l'equipe lighting et les autres departements concernes.
  • Assurer une communication fluide au sein de l'equipe et avec les autres departements impliques dans la production.
  • Participer activement a l'amelioration continue des procedures, outils et workflows pour optimiser l'efficacite et la qualite du departement lighting.
  • Fournir des retours reguliers sur les performances des artistes lighting et les accompagner dans leur developpement.
  • Participer au processus de recrutement des artistes lighting, en collaboration avec les ressources humaines et la production.

The Lighting Lead is responsible for leading the lighting and compositing teams to deliver the desired look and visual quality of an animated feature film. The role ensures the continuity of artistic vision throughout the production, while also managing technical and production challenges. 

What you'll be doing:   

  • Lead the lighting and compositing teams to deliver the expected and desired visual style of the feature film. 
  • Ensure and maintain the quality and consistency of lighting and compositing across all shots in the film. 
  • Collaborate with the CG Supervisor to assess the technical feasibility of designs, suggesting production-friendly solutions to uphold the director's vision while considering the technical constraints of the project. 
  • Consult with the Director and CG Supervisor to assign tasks to artists based on their individual skills, strengths, and experience, ensuring optimal workflow and creativity. 
  • Review the work of artists regularly, providing feedback and approving shots for submission to the Director. 
  • Direct and guide the lighting and compositing teams to achieve the desired look, balancing artistic requirements with productivity and budget constraints, in close collaboration with production management. 
  • Oversee the compositing process, ensuring that all visual elements (lighting, effects, and CG assets) are seamlessly integrated and meet the artistic and technical standards of the film. 
  • Solve complex technical and creative challenges in lighting and compositing, ensuring high-quality outputs that enhance storytelling and emotion. 
  • Manage shot continuity and maintain consistency in look across sequences, ensuring that the film's visual language is preserved. 
  • Work with production management to ensure the team stays on schedule and within budget, making adjustments as necessary to meet deadlines. 
  • Develop and oversee the Lighting & compositing workflow, resource requirements, methodologies, tools, schedules, and work assignments. 
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation for the team and other supervisors. 
  • Keep the team informed of project-related updates and developments. 
  • Enhance procedures and tools for production optimization. 
  • Serve as the primary liaison for interdepartmental communication. 
  • Provide constructive feedback to each artist regarding their performance. 
  • Actively engage in the process of selecting new artists. 

Requirements

Qualites recherchees : 

  • Au moins 5 ans d'experience dans le domaine de la production et connaissance approfondie des differentes plateformes logicielles. 
  • Au moins 3 ans d'experience dans un role de leadership, sur un projet entierement anime ou hybride. 
  • Experience de la production dans Katana, Blender, Renderman et de la composition dans Nuke.
  • Solide comprehension des techniques et principes traditionnels d'eclairage et de composition. 
  • Solide experience technique et capacite a apprehender rapidement de nouveaux programmes et systemes. 
  • Haut degre d'autodirection et forte ethique de travail. 
  • Connaissance d'UNIX et des scripts shell. 
  • Capacite a planifier et a executer des scenes d'eclairage 3D complexes, notamment en travaillant avec des calques et des passes, en effectuant des compositions complexes et en optimisant les scenes et les rendus. 
  • Solides competences en matiere de communication (ecrite, verbale et interpersonnelle). 
  • Solide comprehension artistique de l'eclairage et de la composition. Une liste des taches effectuees pour chaque prise de vue doit etre fournie. 

What you'll bring:  

  • 5+ years production experience with strong working knowledge of various software platforms.  
  • 3+ experience in a leadership role on a fully animated or hybrid features.  
  • Production experience in Katana, Blender, Renderman and compositing in Nuke is a requirement.  
  • Strong understanding of traditional lighting and compositing techniques and principles.  
  • Solid technical background with ability to grasp new programs and systems quickly.  
  • High degree of self-direction and strong work ethic.  
  • Knowledge of UNIX and shell scripts.  
  • Ability to plan and execute complex 3D lighting scenes including working with layers and passes, doing complex comps and optimizing scenes and renders.  
  • Strong communication skills (written, verbal and interpersonal).  
  • Demo reel should display a firm artistic understanding of Light and Composition. A shot breakdown listing jobs performed for each shot is required.
