Title: Lighting Services Engineer

Location: Tuscaloosa, AL
Contract: 3 Years

Job Summary

We are seeking a Lighting Services Engineer I to support the design, implementation, and maintenance of lighting systems for commercial, residential, outdoor, and industrial applications. This role will work with clients, architects, contractors, and project teams to develop safe, functional, visually effective, and energy-efficient lighting solutions.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of lighting design, photometric calculations, AutoCAD, lighting controls, energy codes, and project coordination.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design lighting systems based on project requirements, aesthetics, functionality, and energy-efficiency goals.
  • Perform lighting calculations and simulations to determine fixture selection, illumination levels, and layouts.
  • Develop detailed lighting plans, technical drawings, and specifications.
  • Select lighting fixtures, controls, and accessories based on design requirements and budget.
  • Incorporate LED technology, daylight harvesting, automation, and other energy-efficient solutions.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable lighting, safety, accessibility, and energy codes.
  • Conduct site visits to evaluate existing conditions and support retrofit or renovation projects.
  • Prepare project cost estimates and lighting budgets.
  • Coordinate projects with contractors, electricians, architects, engineers, and clients.
  • Perform quality-control inspections and support lighting system commissioning.
  • Maintain project documentation, drawings, specifications, change orders, and as-built records.
  • Troubleshoot lighting system issues and recommend corrective actions.
  • Support integration of smart lighting systems and advanced lighting controls.
  • Communicate project status and design recommendations to clients and project stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of lighting design principles, photometry, fixtures, controls, and lighting technologies.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and lighting design tools.
  • Understanding of lighting and energy codes, standards, and safety requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with AGi32, DIALux, or similar lighting design software.
  • Familiarity with ASHRAE, IES/IESNA, and applicable energy codes.
  • Experience with LED lighting, smart controls, and lighting automation.
  • Previous experience in utility, consulting, architectural, commercial, or industrial lighting projects.
  • Lighting Certified (LC) credential is a plus.
