Washington Chain & Supply, Inc. (WCS) has served the marine, industrial, and offshore industries for more than 70 years as a supplier of anchors, anchor chain, chain fittings, steel wire rope, synthetic rope and rigging hardware. WCS manufactures its Marquip line of products in our Seattle, WA machine shop while also serving as a distributor for partner brands such Crosby, Van Beest, Cortland, Samson, Peerless, and Bethlehem Wire Rope.  We are an organization that drives innovation in products, processes, and systems to enable growth in our industry and our employees.


Position Summary

The Operations Manager will oversee daily production processes associated with machining (CNC and manual), welding, assembly, testing, and shipping. The position requires considerable skill in workflow planning and the coordination of multiple projects to achieve maximum efficiency. Strong people management skills and ability to communicate across the organization is critical. Operations Manager is responsible for management of up to 25 union personnel.


Key Responsibilities

  • Directly responsible for the daily function and execution of production, assembly, testing, and shipping. 
  • Analyzes and plans labor utilization, capacity, workflow, and space requirements for optimal use of resources.
  • Monitors and maintains operational KPIs.
  • Creates and manages production and process orders for all manufactured items.
  • Works towards continuous improvement goals within various work centers
  • Safety first mindset for all areas of operations. 
  • Demonstrates an emphasis on high morale, effective teamwork, high performance and delivery of commitments
  • Must work well under pressure, meeting and completing multiple deadlines. Shall, at all times, demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience. Degree in manufacturing engineering or similar is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in manufacturing environments with responsibility for operations, project management, or similar. 

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Must be familiar with machining, welding, and other fabrication skill sets.
  • Must be able to rely on extensive experience, problem-solving skills and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Must have good communication and teambuilding skills.
  • Must have experience using ERP system for shop workflow. 
  • Experience reading blueprints and CAD drawings
  • General understanding of labor laws


Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50+ pounds. The employee is regularly required to stand or sit for long periods of time; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; balance; bend and reach with hands and arms; use feet to operate foot pedal operation; and talk or hear. Occasionally required to climb ladders, sit, stoop. This role may require hands-on work in testing environments, collaboration across departments, and flexibility to adapt to evolving responsibilities.
