About the Swing Shift Department Manager Position

Bi-Mart is looking for a dependable and motivated leader to join our Store Team as a Swing Shift Department Manager. This position is responsible for leading a department during afternoon and evening hours while providing exceptional customer service and supporting daily store operations.

This is a working leadership position. Swing Shift Department Managers work alongside their team to assist customers, stock merchandise, maintain attractive department displays, replenish inventory, and ensure the department is clean, organized, and ready for business. They also provide coaching, direction, and support to team members while helping achieve sales, merchandising, and operational goals.

Success in this role requires strong leadership, organization, communication, and problem-solving skills, along with a commitment to delivering an outstanding shopping experience.

Person in Charge (PIC) Assignment

The Person in Charge (PIC) is a secondary work assignment available to Swing Shift Department Managers. When scheduled as the PIC, you will serve as the Manager on Duty and provide leadership for overall store operations. Your schedule will flex between your Swing Shift Department Manager responsibilities and your PIC assignment. When you are not scheduled as the PIC, store management will assume PIC responsibilities, and you will resume your regular department leadership duties.

PIC responsibilities may include:

  • Serving as the Manager on Duty and providing leadership and direction to store team members.
  • Receiving and verifying store shipments.
  • Supporting a profitable store by controlling expenses, maintaining in-stock conditions, and ensuring merchandise is presented according to company standards.
  • Providing prompt, friendly, and knowledgeable customer service while assisting with questions, concerns, and issue resolution.
  • Maintaining a safe, clean, and well-organized store.
  • Enforcing company policies and ensuring compliance with safety, cash handling, and operational procedures.
  • Helping reduce inventory shrink through loss prevention and operational best practices.
  • Protecting company assets and helping minimize potential liabilities.
  • Leading by example through professionalism, teamwork, accountability, and excellent customer service.
  • Overseeing daily store activities, including merchandising, stocking, cashiering, freight processing, and department operations.

Additional Compensation: Employees receive an additional $2.00 per hour while scheduled and working as the Person in Charge (PIC).

Qualifications include, but are not limited to:

  • Dependable with excellent attendance and punctuality.
  • Passion for providing exceptional customer service and creating a welcoming shopping experience.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities.
  • Ability to delegate work while ensuring tasks are completed accurately and efficiently.
  • Ability to make sound decisions and exercise good judgment while serving as the Manager on Duty.
  • Ability to safely lift, carry, and move merchandise throughout the shift.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced retail environment while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to lead by example.

Experience:

Previous experience as a department manager, cashier, sales associate, bagger, warehouse worker, or other retail positions are a plus.

Prior experience at retail brands such as Target, Walgreens, Rite Aid, Fred Meyer, Safeway, and Albertsons is also an asset!

Schedule

This is a swing shift position that operates outside of normal business hours usually starting in the afternoon and going through the evening. Team members typically work four 10-hour shifts per week. Scheduled days and hours may vary by location and business needs.

Shift schedules may also vary based on workload and operational requirements.
