Store Operations Manager

Brown Jug, a leading premium retailer of wine, beer, and spirits in Alaska, is seeking a results-driven, operations-focused Store Operations Manager. This individual will support the Store Manager in running a high-volume, multimillion-dollar retail business while upholding our commitment to exceptional customer service, operational excellence, and community responsibility.

The Store Operations Manager plays a critical leadership role, focused on inventory management, financial oversight, team development, execution of retail programs, and compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. This position is ideal for an individual who thrives in a dynamic environment and is committed to driving performance, developing talent, and improving operational outcomes.

This position will assist the Brown Jug Tudor Store (213) located at 3561 East Tudor Road.

Key Responsibilities

Financial and Inventory Management:

  • Collaborate with the Store Manager to develop and implement strategies that meet or exceed the store's profitability goals
  • Oversee accurate inventory controls: ordering, receiving, cycle counts, and shrink management
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with financial procedures including invoice verification, cash handling, deposits, and reconciliation
  • Produce and analyze daily, weekly, and monthly reports related to sales performance, labor costs, inventory, and loss prevention
  • Adjust scheduling to align labor costs with sales forecasts and operational needs
  • Partner on initiatives to maximize return on investment and improve overall store efficiency

Operational Execution:

  • Ensure flawless execution of daily operations and corporate programs
  • Monitor store cleanliness, organization, and merchandising to meet brand standards
  • Manage store-level communications including promotions, events, and internal updates
  • Drive execution of visual and promotional programs, and assess performance outcomes
  • Set daily priorities and align team members to achieve goals
  • Maintain organized records, documentation, and compliance logs

Regulatory Compliance and Safety:

  • Ensure adherence to all health, safety, alcohol service, and labor regulations
  • Maintain employee training certifications (TAP, RServing, First Aid, etc.) and ensure all staff are compliant
  • Coordinate audits and inspections; follow up on corrective actions where necessary
  • Enforce internal safety and loss prevention policies to safeguard employees and assets
  • Uphold all Company and Afognak Native Corporation policies, particularly around Social Responsibility

Leadership and Team Development:

  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and performance-driven culture
  • Coach, mentor, and develop team members through regular feedback and structured development plans
  • Address performance issues, using progressive discipline and support team accountability
  • Lead daily huddles and weekly team meetings to set expectations and review priorities
  • Partner with Store Manager in recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and succession planning
  • Promote a high-standard work environment with clear expectations and timely recognition

Customer Engagement and Service Excellence:

  • Model and enforce LSUN's 5 Non-Negotiables: Greet, Engage, Build, Add-On, Thank
  • Resolve escalated customer concerns with professionalism and urgency
  • Monitor customer feedback via surveys or direct interaction, and recommend improvements
  • Reinforce company programs and promotions to maximize customer value and satisfaction

Scheduling Requirements:

All Store Operations Managers must maintain flexible availability and meet the following schedule requirements:

  • At least one (1) mid-shift (until 7:00 or 8:00 pm) per week
  • At least one (1) evening shift every two weeks
  • At least one (1) opening shift per week

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1+ year of retail experience
  • Valid State of Alaska Alcohol Server Certification (TAP or RServing)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Must pass a background check
  • Must have reliable transportation

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • 1+ year of leadership, supervisory, or management experience
  • Post-secondary coursework or training in business, leadership, or hospitality
  • Wine, beer, and spirits product knowledge
  • First Aid Certification
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to lead and motivate a diverse team
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven ability to interpret and act on financial reports (P&L, sales, labor, shrink)

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to work a variable retail schedule, including weekends, holidays, and evenings
  • Able to stand for extended periods and safely lift up to 50 pounds
  • Comfortable with climbing ladders and handling product merchandise

Workplace Hazards:

  • Exposure to robbery or shoplifting incidents (potential for psychological stress)
  • Risk of injury from lifting, slips, trips, falls, broken glass, and box cutters
  • Must remain alert and aware of safety protocols at all times
