Job description

The STEM Admissions Counselor is primarily responsible for fostering student interest and engagement in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. The STEM Enrollment Coordinator has a strong understanding of STEM fields, educational principles, and career opportunities. Primary responsibilities include collaborating with STEM faculty, establishing and maintaining school and community partnerships to expand STEM recruitment opportunities, and coordinating and implementing recruitment and partnership events and programs on campus. This position will also assess the effectiveness of STEM recruitment programs and initiatives, collect data, and make recommendations for improvements. 


Primary Duties and Responsibilities: May include, but are not necessarily limited to the following: 

  • Manage a STEM driven recruitment territory to meet and exceed individual and team enrollment goals.
  • Proactively engage with prospective students and families through various channels, including, but not limited to, phone, text, email, video, and in-person meetings, to build relationships.
  • Guide students through the application process to assess both match and fit for their educational and personal goals.
  • Collaborate with STEM faculty members to create a successful recruitment process and strategy for STEM interested students.
  • Counsel students and families on college costs and affordability, including how to apply for scholarships and financial aid.
  • Cultivate and sustain relationships, through the lens of STEM recruitment, with high school counselors, teachers, coaches, and educational consultants to build a strong network for recruitment.
  • Represent Ripon College by delivering engaging in-person and virtual presentations, conducting interviews, and attending college fairs and other recruitment events.
  • Conduct a holistic review of applications, carefully evaluating academic materials to assess a candidate's potential and fit for the college. Application materials are reviewed digitally within the Slate admission and document management system; evaluation of applicants is done by completing forms within that system.
  • Manage your recruitment efforts by completing regular reports on projections, travel, and recruitment activities.
  • Initiate, plan, and execute special recruitment events and programs in conjunction with the STEM recruitment goals and strategy.
  • Travel extensively, up to 6 weeks per year, to visit strategic high schools, attend events, and conduct interviews, with evening and weekend work required as needed.
  • Collaborate with the Campus Visit Coordinator and team to support and assist with on-campus visits, presentations, interviews, and large-scale events.
  • Contribute to projects and initiatives consistent and appropriate with this position. 

An assistant director will spearhead, design, and coordinate two additional projects for the office of admissions, in addition to running our Knop Science Scholarship competition.

  • Foundational knowledge of STEM disciplines and their interdisciplinary applications in education and industry,
  • An understanding of STEM educational principles and academic opportunities within a college environment. 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a proven ability to build rapport with a diverse range of people, including students, parents, and school counselors.
  • A passion for and experience with virtual engagement, including social media, video, and digital communication platforms.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and work independently in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • A deep appreciation for the value of a residential liberal arts education and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to navigate a constantly changing work environment.
  • The ability to work both autonomously and as a collaborative member of a team.

Work Relationships: Works directly with other members of the Office of Admissions staff, STEM Faculty, Athletics, and other key campus constituents. Daily contact with prospective students and their families, current students, staff, faculty, alumni, school counselors, and persons outside the campus community.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with experience in a STEM-related field
  • Required to maintain a valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
  • An Assistant Director will have approximately 3-5 years of professional experience in enrollment, recruitment, sales, marketing and communication, or education.
