Job description

Position Title: Seasonal Lifeguard
Season: May - September
Reports To: Head Guards, District Supervisor, and Aquatics Director
Job Purpose
We are seeking responsible and attentive Seasonal Lifeguards to help ensure the safety of all patrons at our facility. Lifeguards are responsible for maintaining constant surveillance of swimmers, and responding quickly and effectively to emergencies while providing excellent customer service.
Key Responsibilities
  • Enforce all facility policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Maintain constant surveillance of patrons in and around the facility.
  • Recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies.
  • Provide emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.
  • Inspect the facility and report any unsafe conditions to the Head Guard, Facility Manager, or District Supervisor.
  • Assist with maintaining facility cleanliness, including tasks such as skimming, vacuuming, scrubbing tiles, and general custodial duties.
  • Complete required records and reports (smartphone strongly recommended).
  • Participate in regular in-service training sessions.
  • Present a professional appearance and attitude at all times.
  • Maintain a high standard of customer service and guest care.
  • Attend all scheduled shifts.
  • Maintain the physical fitness level required for lifeguarding duties, including strong swimming skills, strength, and endurance.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Acceptable Experience, Training, Certifications and Licenses
Candidates must pass all aspects of the American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification. Applicants do not need to be certified to apply. Training classes will be administered by Lifeguard4Hire.

  • Ability to remain alert and attentive for extended periods

  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Professional attitude and excellent customer service skills
  • Pass all Lifeguard certification training prior to official employment
  • Access to a smartphone for completing required reports is strongly recommended

Seasonal Schedule
This is a seasonal position beginning in May and running through September, candidate should also have the ability to work a varied schedule which includes holidays, weekends, mornings, days and evenings up to 40 hours per week as assigned. Weekly scheduled hours may vary based on facility and are not guaranteed.
Job Qualifications
  • Must be at least 16 years old by the last day of the lifeguard certification course.
  • Strong swimming ability, physical endurance, and the ability to maintain alertness for extended periods.
  • Knowledge of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques (training provided).
  • Ability to understand and enforce facility rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Strong decision-making, leadership, and public relations skills.
  • Professional attitude with strong customer service and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to respond quickly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Access to a smartphone for completing required reports is strongly recommended.

Certifications & Training
  • Must successfully complete all American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification requirements prior to official employment.
  • Certification training is provided through Lifeguard4Hire.
  • Required certifications include:
    • Lifeguarding
    • First Aid
    • CPR
    • AED

Pre-Employment Physical Skills Evaluation
Candidates must be able to pass the following skills assessment:
  • 50-meter swim with a rescue tube
  • 50-meter swim without a rescue tube
  • Tread water for 1 minute using legs only (no hands)
  • Retrieve a training brick from the deepest part of the pool

Seasonal Schedule
This is a seasonal position from May through September. Candidates must be available to work a flexible schedule including holidays, weekends, mornings, days, and evenings, up to 40 hours per week as assigned. Weekly hours may vary based on facility needs and are not guaranteed.
