Hiring Rate: $17.01/ hour
Summer only, Monday-Sunday between 8am-8pm
3-30 hours per week

Definition: Under the supervision of Recreation Supervisor, Coordinator, Senior Lifeguard, and/or Waterfront Manager, perform lifeguard duties, to ensure a safe, fun and secure environment, focused on the swim beach and waterfront areas by adhering to philosophies, policies and procedures of state, local and national agencies that certify or regulate lifeguards.
Principal Duties: • Promote safety and prevent accident or injury by enforcing waterfront rules,
eliminating hazardous behavior, and managing potential risks. • Execute EAP's if necessary. Handle first aid, CPR and other lifesaving skills and
techniques.
• Lifeguard as part of the safety team, either on the swim beach, on rescue board, or in the boat or jet ski with a Ranger.
• Make and/or maintain cordial and professional public relations with patrons. • Enforce additional Union Regulations across shoreline (for example, wading only in
non swim areas or dogs must be leashed). • Ability to remain professional on communication tools shared with people outside of
aquatics team (i.e. Hand-held radios with Police channels) • Adhere to and perform open and closing procedures for waterfront facility. • Attend and participate in staff meetings and/or in-service trainings. • Assist in managing Open Water Swims and Special Events • Performs essential duties and additional tasks in a manner which enhances City
Attributes.
Working Environment: Work conditions are performed outdoors and involves exposure to hot and cold temperatures, high humidity, direct sun and/or moderate to loud background noise. Work requires frequent use of fingers and hands, walking and standing, hearing, speaking, problem solving, math, verbal and written communication and customer contact, handling multiple tasks with frequent interruptions, custodial duties, slippery/uneven walking surfaces, working alone or working closely with others, moderate lifting of 50 lb. chemical bags, bending/stooping, and kneeling and driving a City vehicle for errands.
Qualifications: Has sound judgement. Can decipher between life threatening and non-life-threatening emergencies. Good physical condition and ability to perform Waterfront Lifeguarding procedures as stated by the American Red Cross. Must be at least 16 years of age. Special Qualifications: Current certifications in American Red Cross Lifeguard, including Waterfront certifications, First Aid, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer.
