Symetra has an exciting opportunity to join our Individual Life Insurance Distribution team as an Assistant Vice President, Relationship Management - Life Distribution!

About the role

We are seeking a strategic and results-drivenAssistant Vice President of Relationship Managementto lead and evolve our third-party distribution relationships across the life insurance business. This leader will oversee a team of Relationship Managers and Associate Relationship Managers supporting theBrokerage General Agency (BGA),Independent Marketing Organization (IMO)/Network Marketing Organization (NMO)andDigital Transactionchannels.

The AVP will play a critical role in strengthening enterprise-level B2B partnerships, ensuring alignment with the broader sales strategy, and driving measurable value across distribution relationships. This position requires strong leadership, executive presence, and the ability to influence both internal and external stakeholders.

What you will do

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of Relationship Managers and Associate Relationship Managers.
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and results-oriented team culture aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Ensure effective integration of the relationship management team across Sales, Marketing, Product, and Operations.

Relationship Management Strategy

  • Own and elevate strategic relationships at theIMO/NMO/DT executive level, positioning the company as a preferred partner.
  • Oversee engagement strategies across BGA and IMO channels to drive growth, loyalty, and long-term value.
  • Identify opportunities to deepen partnerships through tailored solutions, joint business planning, and strategic alignment.

Sales & Strategic Alignment

  • Partner closely with theVP of Life Salesto integrate and execute the company's sales plan across distribution channels.
  • Align relationship management initiatives with broader go-to-market strategies and growth priorities.
  • Act as a key contributor to the division's strategic direction, bringing market insights and relationship intelligence.

Data-Driven Decision Making

  • Establish, refine, and manageMeasures of Success (MOS)for distribution relationships.
  • Drive adoption of data-driven frameworks to evaluate partner performance, profitability, and strategic value.
  • Leverage insights to inform resource allocation, relationship prioritization, and business planning.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Serve as a liaison between distribution partners and internal stakeholders to ensure seamless execution and alignment.
  • Collaborate with Product, Underwriting, Marketing, and Operations to enhance partner experience and outcomes.

Compensation

Base salary: $150,000 annually plus eligibility for Incentive Compensation

Who you are

  • College Degree or related work experience required
  • 10+ yearsof experience in life insurance, with a strong focus onthird-party distribution (BGA/IMO/NMO channels).
  • Proven leadership experience managing and developing high-performing teams.
  • Deep understanding of distribution dynamics, relationship management, and B2B partnership strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence at the executive level, both internally and externally.
  • Strong analytical mindset with experience developing and leveraging performance metrics.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
