Job Summary
The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for a federal work study student in the Hall County Library System . The Hall County Library System is seeking a part-time Library Assistant I for the Youth Services Department of the Gainesville Library branch. Assists with programs, assists in finding research and reading materials, helps to maintain order in the department or branch. Reports to the Youth Services Supervisor.
Responsibilities
  • Assists library staff with programming.
  • Assists in collection maintenance including shelving and maintaining shelf order.
  • Promotes patron interest through the creation of displays and book lists.
  • Conducts reader advisories to assist patrons in finding appropriate materials.
  • Voluntary participation in outreach events.
  • Performs limited circulation activities (which includes placing holds).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Basic clerical skills, including understanding of alphabetical and numerical order, and an ability to learn the Dewey Decimal Classification system.
  • Solid commitment to customer service, the protection of intellectual freedom, and the privacy rights of library users.
  • Ability to communicate with the public in a positive manner, either individually or in an audience.
  • Ability to understand and use electronic catalog as well as email, word processing, spreadsheet, and desktop publishing programs.
  • Ability to understand and use reference tools in print form and in online databases.
  • Ability to make decisions within stated guidelines and to work independently in a wide variety of situations.
  • Ability to lift 10 pounds with occasional lifting of heavier items up to 25 pounds. Also, may have to push cart with up to 50 pounds on it.
  • Ability to bend knees, stretch, and lift up to 3 pounds overhead.

Required Qualifications
  • Must be enrolled at the University of North Georgia in a minimum of six (6) credit hours to qualify as a student worker.
