Job description

Job Purpose Within this role the candidate will promote ACPL's values and mission while following established policies and procedures. The purpose of this position is to serve the informational, reference and reading needs to library patrons of all ages at ACPL and will be expected to perform any and all routine tasks necessary to the operation of the library system. This position works under the supervision of the Branch Manager.

This position is a full-time, 40 hours per week, benefitted position requiring one evening per week and weekend rotation. The best candidate will possess a strong commitment to provide customer-focused service for a positive library experience and to relate tactfully and courteously with a wide range of diverse patrons and community members. Responsibilities Promote ACPL's values and mission.

Follow and enforce established library policies and procedures. Assist with maintaining library collections. Regular public service duties include staffing all service desks Work with the Branch Manager and Mebane staff in developing, promoting, and presenting programs for adults reflective of the community demographic and patron interest, including crafts, book clubs, and special interests.

Troubleshoot minor technology related issues, keeping management aware of issues Take responsibility for the appearance of the library and the condition of shelves Assist patrons through reference interactions, reader advisory inquires and in the use of technology, downloadable and online resources. Additional Examples of Work Performed Make new library cards for patrons. Check materials in and out on patron accounts, empty book returns.

Assist patrons with the Self Check out. Answer phones and route calls to appropriate staff. Create original and eye-catching displays monthly.

Take responsibility for the appearance of the library, including the condition of shelves and displays, particularly within the Reference Department. Participates in the selection and de-selection of materials for the branch collection; Assists with adult programs. Serves on Adult Programming Committee Assist with opening and closing the library.

Works with Technical Services department to fulfill Interlibrary Loan Requests. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Associate's degree is required.

One year of customer service experience required. Flexibility in scheduling is required. Proficiency in written and verbal communication is required Previous library experience preferred Ability to speak Spanish is preferred Computer Skills Prior experience with Microsoft Windows and Office applications, basic internet searching, and social media is required Ability to learn library technology is required Skills & Abilities Strong customer service orientation with the ability to provide respectful, equitable assistance to patrons of all backgrounds.

Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, email, internet searching, and social media platforms.

Ability to learn and apply library-specific technology, including ILS systems and electronic resources. Creativity in program planning, display design, and patron engagement. Strong problem-solving skills, sound judgment, and accountability.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods; bend, reach, squat, and lift up to 40 lbs. Ability to push/pull loaded book carts and access materials on high and low shelves.

Ability to effectively communicate with patrons and staff in a busy environment
