Library Clerk
Washington, DC (Library of Congress Project)
Pay Rate: $21.22 per hour + $5.09 per hour Health & Welfare (H&W) Benefit
ZAI is seeking Library Clerks for our work at a prominent federal library in Washington, DC. Qualified candidates will be working as part of a team responsible for providing collections maintenance support for one of the world's largest libraries. Must be able to understand and follow library classification schedules.

Responsibilities
  • Shelve and interfile materials in the library's shelving stacks following the library's classification system sequencing.
  • Identify damaged and/or mutilated materials and remove them for remediation.
  • Read shelves in the library's shelving stacks and verify each item is in the correct location and in the correct order by call number.
  • Refile out-of-place items or route them to the proper location.
  • Receive requests and pull items from library shelving stacks based on specified criteria.
  • Perform quality checks of book trucks to ensure the items pulled match the requested criteria.
  • Complete statistical reports and tracking sheets regarding work performed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; BA/BS preferred.
  • One (1) year of experience working in a library, including book processing, shelving, and/or shifting materials.
  • Knowledge of and experience with the Library of Congress (LC) Classification System and flagging items for repair or special handling.
  • Experience learning and following complex policies and procedures.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and punctuality.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to move throughout the work location and lift, push, pull, carry, or hold items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stoop and lift materials from the floor and bottom shelves.
  • Ability to push carts and trucks weighing up to 200 pounds.
  • Ability to work in cool and dusty environments.
