Overview
Responsible for overseeing the building users and activities of the Community Center and school facilities. Responsible for front desk duties such as program registration, answering the phone and/or patron questions, and enforcing building rules, policies and guidelines. Represent the City of North Liberty's Recreation Department in a professional and exemplary manner under all circumstances. Work involves performance of no supervisory duties.
Essential Functions & Duties
  • Provide excellent customer service in assisting the public in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Ability to perform daily front desk operations and computer software system which includes program registration, memberships, facility reservations, point-of sale, cash register operations, credit card machine operation, and answering phone and in-person patron questions.
  • Enforce departmental policies and handle disciplinary situations according to policy in a consistent and accurate manner so that all patrons/situations are treated equally and promptly. Relay concerns to supervisory staff as well.
  • Assist in receiving and routing incoming calls, greet patrons/visitors to the Recreation Center and provide general information and assistance to the public. Respond to routine inquiries or complaints from the public and refer to appropriate staff.
  • Assist with patron supervision by having patrons check-in upon entering and direct patrons to their proper destination.
  • Perform light janitorial duties as needed so that the Recreation Center remains clean and safe for patrons to use. Responsible for following blood borne pathogen procedures as required by OSHA.
  • Perform Recreation Center opening and closing procedures during shift when necessary.
  • Carry out duties of various recreation activities as requested by supervisory staff in the overall operation of the Community Center. Assist with special events.
  • Contribute to a positive working environment through cooperation with recreation personnel, library personnel, parks personnel and all other City departments.

Qualifications
  • Position requires a high school degree or equivalent and 6 months to one-year previous recreation, customer service experience or related field.
  • Must possess good communications skills, both oral and written, computer, cash register, reading, scheduling, and monitoring skills.
  • Position also requires knowledge in operation of exercise equipment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with other City officials, employees, community groups and the general public.
  • Ability to speak and write effectively.
  • CPR and first aid certifications required.

Supplemental Information
Physical, Mental, & Environmental Requirements
Position requires light to medium work, exerting up to 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 10 pounds of force constantly. Some climbing, pulling, kneeling, stooping, crouching, standing, reaching, hearing, pushing, walking, balancing, lifting, grasping, talking, and repetitive motion is also required on a regular basis. Visual perception range includes working at distances close to the eyes.
Must be able to follow written, oral, or diagrammatic instructions, while using several concrete variables. Position requires exposure to both inside and outside conditions and noise.
