Job Title:ย Library Innovation Assistant - High School






Reports To: Building Administrator and Director of Technology and Innovation

Position Overview:

The Library Innovation Assistant will support the District Librarian in managing daily library operations, facilitating book checkouts, and promoting literacy and research skills among students. This role also includes supporting students participating in online learning programs, monitoring student engagement and progress, assisting students with technology-related needs, and providing support for student Chromebooks and other instructional technology devices. The Library Innovation Assistant will collaborate with teachers and staff to ensure students have access to appropriate learning resources, technology, and academic support.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Passion for Learning & Literacy: Enthusiasm for reading, research, and helping students develop strong literacy and inquiry skills.
  • Experience Working with Children or Students: Previous experience in a school, library, daycare, tutoring, after-school program, or youth organization is preferred.
  • Technology Skills: Comfortable using computers, online research tools, and educational technology; familiarity with databases, digital resources, or makerspace tools is a plus.
  • Strong Communication & Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and staff to support learning experiences.
  • Organizational & Multitasking Skills: Ability to manage library materials, track inventory, and assist with scheduling and lesson execution.
  • Creativity & Problem-Solving: Willingness to adapt, think critically, and create engaging learning opportunities for students.
  • Customer Service & Support: Experience in assisting others, answering questions, and creating a welcoming environment.
  • Ability to Work Independently & as a Team: Self-motivated and capable of executing lessons and library tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Flexibility & Adaptability: Willingness to learn new skills, technology, and teaching strategies as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

Library Operations & Book Circulation:

  • Assist with book checkouts, returns, shelving, and maintaining library organization.
  • Support students and staff in locating and selecting appropriate reading materials.
  • Manage inventory, process new books, and ensure library materials are up to date and accessible.

Instructional Support & Collaboration:

  • Support students participating in online learning programs by monitoring progress, assisting with coursework, encouraging engagement, and communicating concerns to appropriate staff.
  • Assist teachers by gathering, organizing, and preparing instructional materials, resources, and technology needed to support classroom instruction and student learning.
  • Provide small group or individual student support in research, technology use, and information literacy.
  • Promote inquiry-based learning and foster a love of reading across all grade levels.

Technology & Digital Literacy:

  • Support students in using online databases, research tools, and digital library resources.
  • Assist in teaching responsible digital citizenship and evaluating sources for credibility.
  • Introduce students to emerging technologies and multimedia tools that enhance learning.

Library Engagement & Special Programs:

  • Create engaging library displays and reading recommendations for different age groups.
  • Assist in managing student library helpers.
