Hours: Up to 24 hours/week

Home Campus: IAHS, Stoney Creek, Fennell (fully on-site)

Rate of Pay: 20.56 per hour, plus 6% in lieu of vacation

Under the direction of the Director, Library and Academic Services, and as part of the Mohawk College Library team, the Library Technician provides customer service and operational support within campus library locations. The incumbent is a primary point of contact for students and other library users accessing library services, resources, and spaces.

The incumbent provides circulation, basic reference, library orientation, and online support services in person, by phone, email, and virtual platforms. The role also supports the development and maintenance of library research guides and provides administrative and service support related to Academic Integrity Office initiatives, resources, and student engagement activities.

The incumbent contributes to maintaining an inclusive, welcoming, and student-focused learning environment while supporting day-to-day library operations and service delivery.

The incumbent will be required to work a combination of day and evening shifts.

What you'll be doing:

Provide frontline library customer service and student support including:

  • Circulation, responding to inquiries in person, by phone, email, and online chat.
  • Assisting users with printing, study spaces, library systems, basic research support, library resources, and maintaining a welcoming learning environment.

Support library learning and student success initiatives including:

  • Maintaining and updating research guides.
  • Assisting with library promotions/displays.
  • Providing operational support for Academic Integrity Office initiatives.
  • Supporting Academic Integrity Office with resources, events, and awareness activities.
  • Supporting online student resources and providing administrative support.

Support day-to-day library operations including:

  • Shelving, collection maintenance, monitoring library spaces, gathering basic statistics, reporting operational or facilities concerns.

Other duties as assigned.

What you'll bring to the role:

  • Library and Information Technician diploma.
  • Experience providing customer service in a library, educational, or student service environment. Experience supporting students with online systems (i.e. databases, catalog) or information services is preferred.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and online systems.
  • Familiarity with library databases and online learning platforms.
  • Ability to support students in a fast-paced service environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
  • The ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse students, employees, and communities.
