Description The City of Roanoke is seeking a Library Assistant I to perform clerical work in the public library system. The successful candidate will charge and discharge library materials, registers patrons, assists in controlling status of materials in circulation; maintain files and records; assist the public in the use of library facilities; locate books, magazines and other materials as requested; and provide general library information. They will also examine shelves, replaces incorrectly shelved books; inspect and repair library materials; and prepare library materials for circulation.

This position requires a high school diploma or general education degree (GED); one to three months related experience and/or training in a clerical environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Part-Time Library Assistant The City of Roanoke is seeking a Library Assistant to perform clerical and customer service work in the public library system. Charges and discharges library materials, registers patrons, assists in controlling status of materials in circulation Maintains files and records Assists the public in the use of library facilities Locates books, magazines and other materials as requested Provides general library information Examines shelves, replaces incorrectly shelved books Inspects and repairs library materials Processes and labels materials for circulation Orders and maintains inventory Prepares library materials for circulation, bindery and withdrawal from library collections Assists staff with Youth and Adult programs Duties as assigned such as security monitoring May require evening and weekend hours of work.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Typical Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
