Inter-Library Loan Associate-FT

Job Summary: The Senior Clerk in the InterLibrary Loan department focuses on the borrowing and lending of ILL materials from Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh and Allegheny county library collections to state, national and international institutions through ILLiad, Odyssey, OCLC, Share-it (Access Pennsylvania), email, ALA forms, Sierra (the ILS) and other library utilities as appropriate. This position requires excellent customer service abilities as well as an understanding of the need for speed, accuracy, and efficiency within the framework of local, state and national guidelines.
Location: Library Support Center, West End
Work Hours: 37.5 hours per week; Monday - Friday, 9 am - 5 pm.
Salary: $16.00 per hour

Unit: This position is represented by the United Steelworkers union.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Interacting positively with staff and the public in order to communicate and promote quality service;
  • Monitoring new ILL borrowing and/or lending requests received from state, national and international institutions;
  • Processing ILL borrowing requests through bibliographic verification of requests in local, state, national and international databases, including determining lender and holding information;
  • Submitting and monitoring requests in the ILL management systems;
  • Searching for and discovering alternate sources for requested materials;
  • Interacting with customers regarding citation or availability of requested material;
  • Analyzing and resolving problems with minimal supervision;
  • Independently learning new technologies and their application in libraries when appropriate;
  • Processing renewal, overdue and recall transactions;
  • USPS and UPS packing/unpacking and shipping support.

Requirements & Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED required;
  • Two to three years of library experience preferred;
  • Familiarity with OCLC, Share-it, WorldCat, ILLiad or comparable systems desired;
  • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail;
  • Effectively communicate orally and in writing;
  • Ability to manage time and workload in a fast-paced and changing environment;
  • Ability to interpret and implement CLP policies and procedures as well as state and national codes and guidelines within the ILL process;
  • Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with coworkers;
  • Ability to interact positively with external and internal library staff and the public in order to communicate and promote quality interlibrary loan service;
  • The physical ability to bend, stoop, stand for long periods of time, push heavy book trucks, and lift heavy loads of 25 lbs. or more;
  • PA Criminal Background Check and PA Child Abuse History Clearance required upon offer of employment.
