Library Services Associate- Adult

Job Summary: Seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as a Adult Library Services Associate at CLP-East Liberty. The Adult Library Services Associate is responsible for providing excellent customer service to library patrons, assisting with reference and research needs, promoting library resources and facilitating adult programs.
Location: CLP-East Liberty, Pittsburgh, PA
Work Hours: 25 hours per week, days, evenings and weekend availability needed
Compensation: $19.00 per hour

Unit: This position is represented by the Steelworkers Union
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Assisting customers of all ages with information, digital, reader's, and learning services, and accessing library special services,
  • Providing customers with excellent service assistance in person, over the phone, and electronically, serving in a high profile, high energy public service role;
  • Working in conjunction with the Library Services Manager and other neighborhood location staff to provide service across age ranges
  • Facilitating and publicizing programs, including programs at the Library, outreach locations, and other non-traditional settings to meet community needs; performing community outreach and representing the Library throughout the community;
  • Help adult customers build digital skills by providing instruction and troubleshooting in one-on-one computer situations and in workshops with the goal of developing confidence and self-sufficiency in customers surrounding technology and the job search process;
  • Participate in collection maintenance activities as directed by the LSM, librarians, and/or Collections Services staff.
  • Supporting customers in printing, scanning, faxing, copying and online computer reservations.
  • Engaging proactively and building relationships via general public service work, technology and library instruction.
  • Collaborating with staff and community members to achieve shared goals;
  • Providing instruction and troubleshooting in one-on-one computer situations with the goal of developing confidence and self-sufficiency in customers surrounding technology and the job search process;
  • Mentoring users of all ages within the Library;
  • Assisting with day-to-day operations of the branch, including circulation, registration, and shelving;
  • Managing the space, including space upkeep and inventory, behavior, and creating engaging displays; assist with these tasks at the branch level as needed;
Requirements & Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or;
  • A minimum of four years of experience at the Employer's facilities or in an equivalent public service role demonstrating successful application of customer service standards, as determined in the sole discretion of the Employer.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required with good verbal and written skills;
  • Experience working with children, teens and adults in an urban setting preferred;
  • Strong computer skills, including the use of the internet, and MS Office;
  • Ability to work as part of the team for a variety of neighborhood libraries and departments, and adaptability in handling a variety of assigned responsibilities in a busy urban environment;
  • Experience working with people in an urban setting preferred;
  • Bilingual or multilingual a plus;
Clearance Requirements:
  • PA State Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance, FBI Fingerprint Criminal Records Check and Mandated Reporter Training upon offer of employment.
