Job description

ZAI is seeking Library Clerks for our work at a prominent federal library in Washington, DC. Qualified candidates will be working as part of a team responsible for providing collections maintenance support for one of the world's largest libraries. Must be able to understand and follow library classification schedules.

Job Type: Full-time, 100% onsite

Pay: 19.81 HRLY plus $5.09 (H&W) Fringe Benefits

Responsibilities:

  • Shelves and interfiles materials in the library's shelving stacks following the library's classification system sequencing
  • Identifies damaged and/or mutilated materials, etc., and removes for remediation
  • Reads shelves in the library's shelving stacks and verifies each item is in the correct location and in the correct order on the shelf by call number order
  • Refiles out-of-place items or routes them to the proper location
  • Receives requests and pulls items from library shelving stacks based on specified criteria
  • Performs quality checks of book trucks to ensure the items pulled match the criteria
  • Completes statistics sheets with required data regarding work performed
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, BA/BS preferred
  • One (1) year of experience working in a library, including book processing, shelving and/or shifting materials
  • Knowledge and experience with Library of Congress (LC) classification system and flagging items for repair or special handling
  • Experience learning and following complex policies and procedures
  • Strong work ethic and reliability/punctuality
  • Strong organization skills
  • Good communication and interpersonal skill

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to move from place to place within the location; lift, push/pull, hold/carry items weighing up to (50) pounds
  • Must be able to stoop and lift materials from the ground and bottom shelves
  • Ability to push carts and trucks weighing up to 200 pound
  • Ability to work in cool and dusty environments
