Description
Under the general supervision of the Manager, Library and Information Services, performs a variety of duties including providing Information Literacy services; selection, circulation and maintenance of library materials; cataloging, classifying, and access of library materials. Performs multiple tasks and are required to work independently. Judgment and customer service skills are required in making decisions within established procedures. Daily responsibilities are completed independently using established policies and general objectives with occasional supervisory contact. Supervision received is general in nature using established procedures and general objectives.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides Information Literacy services to the college and community. Duties include: identifying library needs; selecting information sources offering instructional support; producing online, print, and audio-visual materials; conducting sessions in collaboration with faculty members; locating and circulating library materials, including sources from other libraries.

  • Manages the Library's collection of print, audio-visual, and electronic resources including print, audio-visual, and electronic materials selection using reviews, patron input, and statistical analysis; maintains the currency of library collection; assigns call numbers and subject headings using the Dewey Decimal System; checks for missing and inaccurate records.

  • Assists with planning and assessing Library activities including budget fund allocations; expense recording; budget forecasts; assisting in grant research and writing to fund Library programs and resources; provides in-service training sessions for Library staff.

  • Works with others to provide services and improve communication including team collaboration; college governance and committee participation; recruiting faculty liaisons to provide feedback to the Library on materials, policies, and initiatives; review and enforces Library procedures; hires, trains, and directs student workers to perform non-professional Library duties.

  • Keeps current on professional trends by conference and professional organization participation.

  • Performs other related duties as required for the efficient operations of the division.

Qualifications
Compliance with all state, federal, and accreditation standards/requirements, as well as all MATC policies and procedures.
Required Education & Experience:
  • Master's degree in Library or Information Science from an institution of higher education accredited by the American Library Association and
  • Two (2) years of occupational experience in an academic library preferred; or any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Knowledge
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of library science.
  • Knowledge of the Dewey decimal classification; Library of Congress subject headings and Anglo-American
  • Cataloging Rules 2 (AACR2).
  • Working knowledge of college supported computer operating systems, application software, and hardware.
Skills
  • Proven customer-service skills and ability to work with a diversity of patrons.
  • Demonstrated ability to locate and evaluate information in a variety of mediums.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers and software specific to the position, including spreadsheets and the Internet.
Abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively through both oral and written means.
  • Ability to establish, collaborate and maintain effective work relationships with peers, students, teachers, staff,

Supplemental Information
This is a part-time 43-week, in-person position (up to 19 hours per week) based primarily at the West Allis Campus. Standard work hours are between 12pm - 6pm, Monday through Friday.

Compensation pay rates are listed up to the midpoint of the range and placement is determined based on years of experience, internal salary equity, and a review of the applicant's employment and educational background as listed on the job application.

Employee Benefits at a Glance - PART-TIME FACULTY/EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT- Part-time employees pay a higher percentage of the premium than full-time employees.
HEALTH INSURANCE: MATC offers a choice between two medical insurance plans. See below for plan types:
1- UMR High Level PPO
2- UMR Low Level PPO
Note: All medical plans include Prescription Drug benefits at no additional costs to employees.
DENTAL INSURANCE: MATC offers a traditional group dental plan through Delta Dental.
Annual maximum per covered person is $2,500; plan covers preventive, routine, restoration, and orthodontics for dependents up to age 19.
GROUP TERM LIFE INSURANCE: MATC offers group life insurance benefits through Symetra Provident Insurance with active assignment and is fully paid for by the College. The amount of insurance is $15,000. The benefit is doubled in the event of accidental death.
RETIREMENT BENEFITS: If you are employed for greater than 12 months and meet the minimum hours requirement for participation in the WRS pension system, you will be notified of your eligibility. The College currently pays the full cost of the employer contribution (6.9%), and the employee pays the full part of the employee contribution of 6.9% of salary. There is a five year vesting period requirement in order to qualify for any employer contributions made on the employee's behalf.
FLEXIBLE SPENDING PLANS: MATC offers eligible employees the opportunity to participate in both Health Care and Dependent Care flexible spending accounts administered through UMR.
SICK LEAVE BENEFITS: Sick leave is earned based on one times the weekly workload per semester. The maximum hours accumulation is 640 hours.
VACATION BENEFITS: Vacation is earned based on the length of service and hours worked each pay period. (Not available for Instructors)
PAID HOLIDAYS: MATC offers paid/flex holidays based on position.
