Job description


Position Summary
The City of Three Rivers is seeking customer-focused and detail-oriented applicants for a Part-Time Service Specialist position at the Three Rivers Public Library. This role is essential to daily library operations and provides direct service to the public. The Service Specialist performs a variety of clerical and customer service duties, including circulation services, assisting patrons, and supporting general library operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Check in and check out library materials and equipment
Provide basic reference, reader’s advisory, and directional assistance to patrons
Assist with issuing and updating library cards
Process overdue notices and hold shelf notifications
Support interlibrary loan requests
Organize new materials and displays
Complete daily statistics and documentation
Answer phones and assist with renewals
Perform photocopying and other clerical tasks
Assist in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming library environment, including shared responsibility for general cleaning tasks such as restrooms and public spaces
Maintain a welcoming and helpful environment for all library users
Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications (Required at Time of Hire)
High school diploma or GED
Valid Michigan Driver’s License
Strong customer service and communication skills
Basic Computer Efficiency

Prior library or customer service experience
Strong computer and typing skills
Associate degree or higher
Schedule and Hours
Up to 25 hours per week (including evenings and weekends)
Typical schedule:
Tuesday: 2:45 PM - 7:45 PM
Wednesday 9:45 AM - 2:30 PM (Meeting Weeks 2nd Wed of each month- 1:00 PM - 6:00 PM)
Thursday: 12:45 PM - 5:45 PM
Friday: 12:45 PM - 5:45 PM
Saturday: 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM
(Schedule subject to change based on library needs)
Work Environment
This position works primarily at the circulation desk and requires frequent interaction with the public, multi-tasking, and the ability to handle interruptions in a fast-paced environment.
