Job Summary

Manages the Circulation Department including; public service, planning, training, and evaluation. Provides leadership to full time and part time circulation staff and library volunteers

Essential Functions & Responsibilities Supervisory Responsibilities

Accomplishes staff job results by hiring, coaching, counseling, managing performance; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; implementing enforcing systems, policies, and procedures, and conducting training that ensures a high level of customer service

Primary Responsibilities
  • Manages the circulation operations by leading the team in the development and implementation of circulation modules, policies, procedures, and processes; identifies and solves circulation issues and makes workflow improvements; evaluates and analyzes system wide circulation procedures, materials handling, and workflow; assists in on-site review and recommendations of circulation workflow processes; works the public service desk
  • Prepare and analyze department records and statistics for monthly Board and annual state reports
  • Builds and maintains contact with other public library circulation department managers to monitor trends, techniques, policies and procedures
  • Coordinates the library's adult volunteer service, Interlibrary Loan, and homebound delivery service
  • Demonstrates commitment to the library's mission by helping with ongoing projects and other organizational initiatives
  • Serves as "Person in Charge" when required
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Working Conditions
  • This job operates in a professional office environment in a building with standard temperature levels. The noise level is usually moderate, but can change depending on specific programming. This role uses standard office equipment
  • While performing the duties the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds
Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science Degree
  • Four years' experience working in library circulation department is preferred. Minimum of three years of supervisory experience
  • Ability to work a variety of hours including evenings and weekends
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekend on rotation
