Summary
Responsible for providing desk coverage and assistance to library internal and external customers, including but not limited to, circulation, program presentation, information, and computer assistance services.
Essential Functions and Other Important Duties
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

DUTIES
  • Provide assistance and instruction to library customers in person, over the telephone, or by electronic mail.
  • Assist and instruct customers in use of library equipment and services, including but not limited to reader's advisory, basic reference searches, online catalog, MakerSpace, digital collections, public computers, printers, and other library machinery.
  • Complete registration for new library customers, update library accounts and check in returned materials and assesses, and check out library materials, as appropriate.
  • Collect fees and process payments for items; accept cash, check, or card payments, as needed.
  • Organize and straighten materials on the shelves and maintenance of collections; ensure items are in proper order according to the Dewey Decimal System.
  • Assist with preparation and promotion of programs, classes, and services; assist with program outreach, as needed.
  • Prepare publicity materials, displays and bulletin boards.
  • Monitor the conditions of returned material; repair materials and route to proper area and/or staff member, as applicable.
  • Collect in-house statistics.
  • May supervise volunteers.

Job Requirements
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
  • High School diploma or equivalent; and,
  • Two (2) years' experience in library or related field,

  • Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.
