Job description

Position Summary: Assist the library is all library operations to effectively meet the needs of library patrons as directed by the Director. Provide hands on support and leadership to summer reading program including preparing and facilitating art classes, story times and other activities.  This position is an addition to the library team for part-time hours in the summer and other days as needed and will be trained to staff the library independently if needed.

Position Funding Regular hours supporting library functions will be funded by the City of Winthrop. Hours providing art classes for the Summer Reading Program will be paid by TDS Legacy Grant funds.

Essential Job Duties:

·        Assist with all functions of library to ensure efficient and effective operations.

·        Prepare and facilitate art classes for the Summer Reading Program. 

·        Provide a high level of customer service in person and over the phone (explaining library policies, answer questions, use library resources and equipment.)

·        Perform circulation routines to ensure accurate and timely movement of items between TDS locations.

·        Assist in library collection duties including shelving, weeding and creating displays.

·        Assist in planning library programming and provide staff to events as directed by Library Director.

·        Attend staff meetings/trainings as needed. 

·        Independently perform library operations duties as directed and scheduled.

Minimum Qualifications:

·        Customer service skills for general public of all ages

·        Office administration skills including: written and verbal communications, basic math skills, keyboarding, computer systems knowledge and internet knowledge.

·        General knowledge of libraries and interest in books and reading.  

·        General art knowledge sufficient to facilitate art exploration and discovery experiences.

·        Ability to work independently. 

·        Ability to work effectively with Library Director and other employees.

·        Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time and bend or lift up to 20 lbs.

·        Ability to plan and organize tasks within a project. 



Reports To: Library Directors

Pay: $15-17 / hour

Hours: 6-10 hours weekly.
