Job Summary The Adult Services Assistant will provide a positive and welcoming experience for all Library visitors. They assist patrons of all ages in locating library materials, with a focus on teens and adults. They will carry out routine Circulation Desk duties and assist patrons with technology.
The Assistant will be responsible for ongoing administrative projects using creativity and a love of detail. Examples of Duties Greets patrons and helps in finding information and recommending books as needed. Shares accurate information about library programs and services with the public.
Assists patrons in the use of library computers and equipment. Assists with preparation and implementation of programs for library users aged 13 and up. May suggest materials for purchase under the direction of the Adult Services Librarian.
Answers telephone and directs calls. Performs routine circulation and processing functions as needed. Performs routine collection maintenance functions.
Enforces library policies and procedures in an appropriate manner. May promote public awareness of library services and programs, creating flyers, social media posts, web events, book displays and bulletin boards. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Required Qualifications High school degree or GED High school degree with at leasttwo years of library experience or equivalent experience working with the public. A combination of equivalent education and experience will be considered. Supplemental Information Ability to deal tactfully, courteously, and effectively with the public and other employees.
Strong communication skills; familiarity with Canva is preferred. Ability to learn and apply new computer skills. Ability to learn library procedures and apply policies.
Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy, efficiency, and dependability. Prior experience working with adults in a library or bookstore setting is preferred. Bachelor's degree with one year of customer service experience, or equivalent, is preferred.
Fluency in a language other than English is preferred.
