Job description

Flahive, Ogden & Latson is a well-established and widely respected medium-sized defense litigation firm seeking a new associate attorney. The ideal candidate should be eager to commence handling mediations and bench trials before administrative law judges immediately (if currently licensed in Texas), or immediately upon passing the 2026 Texas state bar exam.

When you join our firm, you will NOT find yourself stuck for years in a law library drafting briefs and discovery responses. Instead, you will be trying cases, managing a docket, and working directly with our clients as soon as you are trained and on-boarded.

For over eighty years, we have been representing insurance companies, private employers, cities, counties, school districts, and other public entities before the Texas Department of Insurance – Division of Workers’ Compensation, the State Office of Administrative Hearings, and in district and appellate courts throughout the State of Texas. On the federal side, we handle cases globally, representing employers and insurance companies in Longshore and Harbor Workers Compensation Act and Defense Base Act matters.

We are headquartered in Austin, and we will be hiring an attorney who is based out of Austin, DFW, Houston or San Antonio. We seek a currently licensed Texas attorney with no more than three years of legal experience, or a recent law school graduate who plans to be licensed in Texas in 2026. We are an equal opportunity employer.

Bolstered by an excellent staff and provided superior training and support from attorney mentors, you will handle cases with a great deal of autonomy, travelling 2-3 days a week to different parts of the state. We are seeking an individual who aspires to grow professionally, achieve success, and possibly even retire with us. Our firm culture is outstanding, and we have prioritized work-life balance long before it became a trendy catchphrase. FOL is proud to have been chosen as one of “The Best Companies to Work For: Law Firms” by U.S. News & World Report.

Your yearly compensation package is tied to the revenue you generate for the firm and will commence with a $5000 signing bonus and a $60,000 annual base salary. Once we have determined you are the right fit, we will pay you a $5000 retention bonus. In addition, you will receive monthly commissions on receivables, the percentage of which will increase annually over the next five years (with the potential to exceed $30,000 in your first year). The package also includes a generous holiday bonus in December, a discretionary year-end bonus based on performance, 401k contributions, a monthly Health Savings Account contribution, a monthly cash stipend for travel incidentals, work-related travel reimbursement at the state mileage rate, airline/hotel/car rental points earned for work-related travel, a life insurance policy, and health insurance.

Licensed Texas attorney with no more than three years’ experience, or current law school graduate planning to become licensed in Texas in 2026. Must have a valid Texas drivers' license and a reliable personal automobile suitable for statewide travel.
