Job description

Library Desk Assistant

To assist library staff with the daily functions at library desks.

Essential duties include basic customer service, checking in/out library materials using the patron computer system, assisting patrons in locating library materials, re-shelving library materials using the Library of Congress call number system, handling monetary transactions involving payment of fines, etc., basic computer/clerical tasks, keeping work area and library areas neat and orderly, assisting with disinfecting computer keyboards/mice, study tables and study rooms, stocking paper and changing toner in the library printers, and communicating effectively with library patrons.

Required qualifications include being a MoWest student, degree-seeking, having at least an overall 2.0 GPA, and being enrolled at least part-time.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities must include excellent customer service skills, the ability to interact and communicate effectively with patrons and library staff, the ability to push/pull a 50lb cart of books, the ability to shelve and retrieve library materials, basic computer/clerical skills and attention to detail, and being detail-oriented.

Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Location where duties are to be performed: Library Circulation/Information Desks Hearnes Library.

Hours of work: Average 18 hours per week. Must be able to work nights and/or weekends between the hours of 7:30am – 8:00pm.
