TOWN OF MARBLEHEAD
Job Description: Youth Services Library Assistant (PT)
Department: Library
Date: June 17, 2026
Schedule: 17.5 hours per week; requires one Saturday per month and
some evenings
Summary
Abbot Public Library is dedicated to fostering literacy, education, and creativity from birth through the teenage years. Reporting to the Teen Librarian, the Youth Services Library Assistant provides front-line customer service and administrative support in both the Children's and Teen Rooms.
Key Responsibilities
โ€ข Staff youth services desks and assist patrons of all ages in locating physical and digital materials.
โ€ข Utilize the library's automated circulation system to process patron transactions accurately (check-ins, check-outs, holds).
โ€ข Assist librarians with the planning, preparation, and execution of programs and outreach opportunities for children and teens.
  • Provide high-quality, welcoming service across both the Children's and Teen Rooms as scheduled.

Required Background & Qualifications
  • High School diploma (or equivalent) with two years of similar library experience; OR any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
  • Previous experience working directly with children, teens, and families.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a patient and welcoming demeanor.
  • Solid computer literacy (experience with library ILS software/Evergreen is a plus).
  • Ability to bend, reach, sit, and stand for extended periods as required to maintain the department and assist patrons.
