Job description

A Regional Librarian Supervisor position is available at the Golden Triangle branch of the Fort Worth Public Library. The ideal candidate is customer-focused, enthusiastic about bringing library services to people in the community, and comfortable working with diverse populations, including people of all ages, backgrounds, dispositions, and abilities.

This position will play a critical role in ensuring equitable access to library services and sustaining strong operational oversight as Golden Triangle Library has expanded to a seven-day-a-week regional branch. As one of only three regional libraries in the city, Golden Triangle Library requires increased supervision to effectively support higher customer traffic, a larger staff, expanded programming and services, and increased customer service demands. The Regional Librarian Supervisor will help ensure that the branch operates efficiently, remains responsive to the needs of a diverse community, and provides welcoming, accessible, and equitable library services to all customers.

The Regional Librarian Supervisorโ€™s job responsibilities include:

  • Planning, organizing, and directing the day-to-day operations and staff of a branch library to ensure efficient and effective public service
  • Providing excellent customer service, including answering questions and helping customers locate materials and services of interest
  • Interpreting policy and procedures and resolving daily operational and customer issues.
  • Ensuring that the location is well-ordered, appealing, and inviting; Managing the locationโ€™s overall collection, including promotion, maintenance, and weeding
  • Supervising staff, including planning and assigning work, performance management, scheduling, addressing complaints and resolving problems; training staff on basic job functions
  • Planning, implementing, and evaluating local outreach programs and services in conjunction with staff
  • Evaluating Library standards and services at location
  • Assisting customers with basic computer needs and emerging technologies

Working Conditions and Physical Demand

Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting.

Medium work - Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Masterโ€™s degree from an ALA accredited college or university with major course work in library and information sciences (MLS)
  • Four (4) years of responsible professional library experience
  • Two (2) years of administrative and/or lead supervisory experience
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of management principles and practices including goal setting, budget development/implementation, and staff development and motivation
  • Knowledge of modern professional library principles, practices, and procedures
  • Skill in using exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills that build and maintain strategic relationships with internal and external customers
  • Skill in hiring, motivating, developing, and directing staff in a collaborative team environment
  • Ability to communicate with customers in Spanish
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends
  • Ability to work at/travel to various locations
