POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

POSITION: Gifted Teacher (Elementary) 
LOCATION:  Gifted Center 
JOB SUMMARY:
The Dougherty County School System is seeking a Gifted teacher to join our roster of experienced, motivated, and effective teaching professionals. The teacher will be responsible for preparing and implementing engaging lessons that address the academic needs and rigor of all students, while providing a positive learning environment that encourages lifelong learners.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:








  1. Clear and renewable certificate in Early Childhood Education;
  2. Gifted In-Field Endorsement;
  3. Five years of satisfactory teaching experience;
  4. Knowledge and understanding of cognitive, social and emotional characteristics and needs of gifted learners;
  5. Experience in developing and implementing challenging curriculum based on state standards and curriculum;
  6. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and the Board may find appropriate.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  

  1. Excellent communication and organizational skills;
  2. Ability to relate and motivate all students in a positive manner with respect;
  3. Ability to successfully integrate technology into the classroom while engaging students;
  4. Ability to perform routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities;
  5. Ability to manage sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Develops and implements an enriching and challenging differentiated curriculum appropriate for gifted students;
  2. Creates and maintains a positive, organized and safe learning environment in which gifted students can use their strengths, risk new areas of thought and feel challenged academically;
  3. Collaborates with other gifted educators to promote instruction in higher-level thinking skills and problem solving skills;
  4. Uses a variety of instructional strategies and incorporate best practices for gifted education;
  5. Interprets and uses data for diagnosis, instructional planning, and program evaluation;
  6. Performs other such duties needed or assigned by the Supervisor.



REPORTS TO:  Gifted Education Coordinator
SALARY RANGE:  Competitive salary and excellent benefits package, in accordance with the DCSS Compensation Guide
