About the role

This position drives demand by engaging contractors through product demonstrations, while delivering expert technical guidance on specifications, applications, and design. Provide ongoing post-sale support to ensure successful product implementation and customer satisfaction.


Responsibilities
  • Consult with contractors on technical product specification, encouraging use of new products and additional product categories
  • Identify high-value contractors and create account plans including specific sales plays to run with each contractor, partnering with associated sales teams
  • Setup, attend, conduct technical sales calls and product demonstrations on a weekly basis
  • Wherever possible, establish Leviton as approved, preferred for use, or basis of design in specifications and construction documents
  • Conduct field visits to demo products with contractors to drive demand
  • Serve as a technical product expert for all Leviton products the specialist is responsible for selling providing pre and post sales technical support
  • Maintain field intelligence on competitor’s activities and new product developments
  • Inform and build wide market adoption though product marketing to contractors
  • Provide post-sale technical support to market served, coordinating with product team when necessary
  • Communicate product feedback from market to internal channels (e.g. product management, engineering, and marketing)
  • Develop an annual sales plan in conjunction with Regional sales, corporate sales and budget goals
  • Establish daily integrated communications with the electrical Regional Sales Manager and their Team(s)
  • Develop trusting relationships with regional technical specifying community to include Architects, Engineers, and Design-Build construction organizations

Qualifications
  • Deep technical product knowledge for Commercial, Industrial, Controls, and Residential products
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Strong ability to collaborate and build relationships with the Distribution Sales team and external customers and contractors
  • Experience in the industry, preferably as a contractor and/or in selling to contractors
  • Disciplined in approach and proven track record of teaming successfully
  • Possess strong leadership, relationship-building, and relationship management skills
  • Outstanding oral, written, and verbal communication/presentation skills as well as negotiation skills
  • Focused on developing and driving specifications through-out a sales cycle in a Team environment
  • Maintains focus on the front end of a sales cycle to specify and influence Channel
  • High level of comfort in communicating with every level of an organization from top level executives to field personnel
  • Can transition in and out of complex accounts during a sales cycle
  • Understands their role and how to leverage Regional management and Corporate management for support to increase market share in their region
  • Knowledgeable with Day 1 construction, Day 2 support and MRO in an industrial/commercial facilities life cycle
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software is required specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Proficient with CRM tools such as Salesforce.Com
  • Capable of sales specification in a hybrid role using online tools

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree, technical degree strongly preferred
  • Construction / Contractor professional experience a plus
  • 3 to 5+ years’ of comparable technical sales experience inside and/or outside of Leviton with similar products/customers
  • 3 to 5+ years’ experience selling within the electrical industry
