XCEL NDT is seeking a Mechanical Integrity (MI) Technician – Level II UTT to support our MI department by performing nondestructive testing activities in conjunction with API inspectors. This role is focused on in-service and shutdown inspections of pressure vessels, piping, tanks, and related equipment to ensure mechanical integrity and regulatory compliance.

The MI Technician will primarily perform ultrasonic testing (UT), including thickness testing (UTT), magnetic particle testing (MT), and liquid penetrant testing (PT) while working closely with API 510, 570, and 653 inspectors. This position is specifically for Level II UTT technicians and requires certification through ASNT ISQ (Industrial Sector Qualification).

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-focused, and experienced in refinery, petrochemical, or industrial environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform UT thickness readings (UTT), corrosion mapping, and flaw detection in support of MI inspections

  • Conduct MT and PT examinations on pressure equipment, piping, and structural components

  • Work alongside API inspectors (510, 570, 653) to support in-service, shutdown, and turnaround inspections

  • Accurately document inspection data and field results using company procedures and reporting systems

  • Follow applicable codes, standards, and client specifications (API, ASME, ASTM, etc.)

  • Maintain equipment calibration and ensure proper use of NDT tools and UT equipment

  • Comply with all XCEL NDT safety policies and site-specific safety requirements

  • Travel to client sites as required and work flexible schedules, including nights or weekends during outages

Qualifications
  • ASNT ISQ Level II certification in Ultrasonic Thickness Testing (UTT) required

  • Experience performing UTT in mechanical integrity or in-service inspection programs

  • Additional NDT certifications (MT, PT) preferred

  • Experience working in refinery, petrochemical, power generation, or heavy industrial environments

  • Strong understanding of pressure equipment inspection practices and corrosion monitoring

  • Ability to work effectively with API 510, 570, and 653 inspectors

  • Strong documentation and reporting skills

  • Commitment to safety, quality, and compliance
