How much do level 3 welder jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 16, 2026, the average hourly pay for level 3 welder in the United States is $22.26, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $18.75 and $24.76 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What can you do with level 3 welding?

A Level 3 welder is highly skilled and qualified to perform complex welding tasks, including advanced fabrication, structural welding, and critical repairs. They can work on large projects such as bridges, ships, and industrial equipment, often requiring certifications and the ability to operate various welding processes like GTAW, SMAW, and GMAW. This level of expertise allows for leadership roles and higher-paying positions in the welding industry.

What types of projects and materials can a Level 3 Welder expect to work with, and how do these tasks differ from lower-level welding roles?

As a Level 3 Welder, you will typically handle more complex projects involving advanced welding techniques and a wider variety of materials, such as stainless steel, aluminum, or specialized alloys. Your responsibilities may include reading and interpreting intricate blueprints, performing precision welds, and working on custom fabrication or repair jobs that require a high degree of skill and problem-solving. Compared to lower-level welders, you are also more likely to supervise junior team members, ensure compliance with strict safety and quality standards, and contribute to process improvements. This role offers opportunities to expand your technical expertise and move into leadership or specialized welding positions.

What are Level 3 Welders?

Level 3 Welders are highly skilled professionals who have advanced welding expertise and are typically certified to perform complex welding tasks. They are proficient in various welding processes, such as MIG, TIG, and arc welding, and often work on specialized projects that require a high degree of precision and knowledge. In addition to hands-on welding, Level 3 Welders may also be responsible for training junior welders, reading and interpreting blueprints, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. Their experience and certification levels allow them to tackle challenging assignments across different industries, including construction, manufacturing, and shipbuilding.

What job makes $10,000 a month without a degree?

A Level 3 Welder can potentially earn around $10,000 per month, especially with specialized skills, certifications, and experience in high-demand industries like oil and gas or aerospace. Such roles often require advanced welding techniques, safety training, and working in challenging environments, but they do not typically require a college degree.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Level 3 Welder, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Level 3 Welder, you need advanced welding skills, a thorough understanding of various welding techniques, and certifications such as AWS Certified Welder or equivalent. Mastery of welding equipment, blueprint reading, and familiarity with safety systems and inspection tools are typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and strong teamwork are essential soft skills that set top performers apart. These competencies ensure high-quality, safe welds and efficient collaboration on complex projects in demanding environments.

Why do welders age so fast?

Welders, including Level 3 Welders, age faster due to exposure to intense heat, ultraviolet radiation, and hazardous fumes during welding processes. Repeated exposure to these environmental factors can accelerate skin aging, cause respiratory issues, and lead to other health problems if proper protective equipment and safety protocols are not followed.

What is the difference between Level 3 Welder vs Level 2 Welder?

AspectLevel 3 WelderLevel 2 Welder
CertificationsTypically requires advanced welding certifications and more extensive trainingRequires basic welding certifications, often entry-level
Work EnvironmentWorks on complex projects, often in industrial or construction settingsPerforms standard welding tasks, usually in manufacturing or repair shops
Skills & ResponsibilitiesPerforms advanced welding techniques, quality control, and troubleshootingHandles basic welding tasks, follows standard procedures

The main difference between a Level 3 Welder and a Level 2 Welder lies in experience, certification requirements, and complexity of tasks. Level 3 Welders are skilled professionals capable of handling complex projects and advanced techniques, while Level 2 Welders typically perform foundational welding work with less certification and responsibility.

How much does a level 3 welder make?

A Level 3 welder typically earns between $50,000 and $70,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and industry. Advanced certifications and specialized skills can lead to higher wages, especially in demanding environments or with union membership.
