What is a Level 2 IT Support?

A Level 2 IT Support job involves handling more complex technical issues that cannot be resolved by Level 1 support. This role includes troubleshooting hardware and software problems, assisting with network and server issues, and providing advanced user support. Level 2 technicians may also work with system administrators to escalate critical issues. Strong analytical skills and a deep understanding of IT systems are essential for this position.

What types of issues does Level 2 IT Support typically handle compared to Level 1 support?

Level 2 IT Support handles more complex technical problems that cannot be resolved by Level 1 support, such as in-depth troubleshooting of software errors, network connectivity problems, and configuration issues. You will often work on escalated tickets, interact directly with end users for advanced diagnostics, and collaborate with Level 3 specialists for particularly challenging situations. This role requires a greater depth of technical knowledge and analytical skill. Being in Level 2 support gives you the chance to broaden your technical expertise and act as a mentor for junior team members, while also preparing you for potential advancement into specialist or system administrator roles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Level 2 IT Support position, and why are they important?

Level 2 IT Support professionals need in-depth technical knowledge of operating systems, networking, hardware troubleshooting, and customer service, often supported by experience or certifications like CompTIA A+, Network+, or Microsoft MCP. They are typically skilled in support ticketing systems, remote desktop tools, and system administration platforms. Strong analytical thinking, effective communication, and patience help them resolve advanced technical issues and guide users. These skills are crucial for ensuring efficient problem resolution, minimizing downtime, and providing a seamless user experience.

How to become a Level 2 IT support?

To become a Level 2 IT support technician, candidates typically need an associate degree or equivalent in information technology or a related field, along with relevant certifications such as CompTIA A+ or Network+. Gaining experience in basic troubleshooting, hardware, and software support is essential, and developing skills in networking, operating systems, and remote support tools can help advance to this role.

About the Opportunity

Chasing Connections is recruiting an experienced Level 2 IT Support Technician on behalf of a growing healthcare-focused Managed Services Provider (MSP) serving organizations throughout the Savannah, Georgia market.

This is a hands-on technical position for an IT professional who is comfortable independently troubleshooting escalated issues while providing high-touch support to healthcare professionals and organizations.

The ideal candidate understands that healthcare IT requires more than simply resolving tickets. You’ll be supporting environments where reliability, security, compliance, and responsiveness are critical.

IMPORTANT — PLEASE READ BEFORE APPLYING

Candidates MUST have prior experience working for an MSP supporting healthcare clients.

This position requires:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience working within an MSP environment supporting multiple clients
  • Direct healthcare MSP / healthcare IT experience, including supporting healthcare organizations, clinical environments, healthcare applications, or healthcare-regulated environments

Healthcare MSP experience is a mandatory requirement. Candidates without relevant MSP and healthcare IT experience will not be considered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Resolve escalated Level 1 tickets involving hardware, software, networking, and cloud platforms within established SLAs
  • Troubleshoot Level 2 issues across Windows endpoints, Microsoft 365, networking, and related technologies
  • Provide both on-site and remote technical support to clinical and administrative staff
  • Support healthcare-specific applications and EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, or similar platforms
  • Configure and maintain endpoints, printers, medical peripherals, and workstation imaging
  • Support Active Directory, Microsoft 365, Azure AD, and identity/access management tools
  • Assist with network troubleshooting, including VLANs, VPNs, wireless networks, and basic firewall rules
  • Accurately document work within PSA/ticketing platforms such as ConnectWise, Autotask, or similar systems
  • Escalate complex issues to Level 3 technicians or engineers when appropriate
  • Contribute to internal documentation and knowledge-base resources
  • Maintain HIPAA-aware practices and appropriate handling of sensitive healthcare data
  • Participate in an on-call rotation as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of MSP experience supporting multiple clients simultaneously
  • Must have experience working in a healthcare-focused MSP environment or supporting healthcare clients through an MSP
  • Direct healthcare IT experience
  • Ability to independently troubleshoot Level 2 issues involving Windows endpoints, Microsoft 365, and networking
  • Working knowledge of HIPAA requirements as they relate to IT operations and data handling
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Professional and confident communication when working with physicians, nurses, executives, and administrative teams
  • Ability to provide on-site support within the Savannah market

Strongly Preferred

  • Experience with EMR/EHR platforms including Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, or similar
  • CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, Microsoft MD-102, AZ-900, or comparable certifications
  • Experience with PSA platforms such as ConnectWise Manage or Autotask
  • Experience with RMM tools such as ConnectWise Automate, NinjaRMM, or Datto
  • Familiarity with healthcare networking environments and biomedical device connectivity
  • Experience supporting multi-site healthcare organizations or physician groups

Why This Opportunity?

This position offers the opportunity to build specialized expertise within healthcare IT rather than working as an IT generalist.

You’ll develop ongoing relationships with healthcare clients in your region while joining a growing organization that offers opportunities for continued technical advancement and future leadership.

Competitive compensation and benefits offered.
