Job description

  • Create and launch new residential energy products-not simply manage existing ones
  • Lead customer discovery, validation and delivery to solve meaningful customer problems
  • Melbourne based

Join a team that's All Kinds of Useful

At Origin, being useful is more than a tagline - it’s how we approach work every day. As a collective, we’re a team that thrives on finding better ways, working together, and owning our impact. From powering homes to delivering award-winning internet and helping to lead Australia’s energy transition. If you’re driven by purpose and excited to be part of something bigger, we’d love to have you on the journey.

About the role
Energy is moving beyond a commodity, with products increasingly shaping how customers live, electrify, generate, store and manage their energy. As Product Development Manager, you’ll create, validate and launch new residential energy products tailored to customers’ lifestyle and home-electrification needs. This is a genuine new-product development role. You’ll start by understanding who the customer is and the problem that needs to be solved, then lead the product from discovery and validation through to delivery, launch and ongoing optimisation.Working across customer experience, digital, hardware, technology and commercial models, you’ll translate customer needs, market insights and business strategy into scalable products that support growth, profitability and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the development of new products across solar, battery storage and in-home electric vehicle charging.
  • Build a deep understanding of target customers, identify their problems and test assumptions using qualitative and quantitative insights.
  • Validate customer desirability, commercial viability, technical feasibility and operational readiness before progressing to delivery.
  • Shape product strategy, value propositions and roadmaps across customer experience, purchase models, digital experiences and supporting technology.
  • Partner with design, engineering, digital, commercial and operational teams to deliver, launch and continuously improve products.

You’ll also develop in-life tips, updates and recommendations through the Origin app and personalised communications, helping customers gain greater value from their energy services and connected devices.

What you’ll bring

  • Demonstrated experience creating and launching new products from initial discovery—not only managing established products.
  • Strong product-development fundamentals across customer discovery, validation, experimentation, delivery, launch and optimisation.
  • The ability to clearly explain who the customer was, the problem being solved and how customer evidence shaped a product you launched.
  • Experience developing digital products and breaking complex customer or business problems into testable, deliverable increments.
  • Commercial acumen and confidence using customer feedback, product data and market insights to make decisions.
  • Strong collaboration and influencing skills, with the ability to complement the strengths of a diverse cross-functional team.

Experience with connected energy products—including solar, battery storage, electric vehicles or IoT devices—would be highly regarded.
