About the Agency: The Attorney General is the chief legal officer and advisor for the State of Mississippi on both civil and criminal matters. Her responsibility is to represent public officials and government agencies and to issue legal opinions that interpret State law. The Attorney General has the sole power under Mississippi law to bring or defend a lawsuit on behalf of the State. She acts as counsel to State agencies and defends them or brings suit on their behalf. Most importantly, the Office is charged with the representation of the people of the State of Mississippi.
About the Position: This is a time limited position. This position is responsible for assisting in the preparations of complex legal documents, scheduling meetings, and preparing reports. Job duties include performing research on legal issues, filing legal documents, and drafting legal instruments and correspondence.
What you'll need to be Successful: Excellent organizational, communication, and data processing skills, be able to prioritize work to meet assigned deadlines, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications: Typically requires a High School Diploma or high school equivalency and 5+ years of experience in a legal environment and may also require a paralegal certification.
