The Director, Legal Operations is a strategic leadership role responsible for optimizing the efficiency, effectiveness, and value delivery of the Banner Health Legal Department. This role bridges legal expertise with business operations, technology, and process management to enhance legal service delivery across the organization. This role will have the opportunity to impact ongoing performance improvement efforts within the Legal Department, working with key Legal Department and other business stakeholders across the organization to support, oversee and effectuate key Legal Department operations initiatives.

POSITION SUMMARY
This position is a strategic leadership role responsible for optimizing the efficiency, effectiveness, and value delivery of the Banner Health Legal Department. This role bridges legal expertise with business operations, technology, and process management to enhance legal service delivery across the organization.
CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Partners with Legal Department leadership to identify operational priorities and improvement opportunities, including developing the legal operations strategy aligned with organizational goals and Legal Department objectives. Supports change management initiatives to drive adoption of new processes, technologies, and workflows. Provides guidance on resource allocation, budgeting, and capacity planning.
2. Implements and continuously improves legal processes and workflows. In partnership with Legal Department leadership, establishes and monitors key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics for Legal Department performance. Leads and supports cross-functional projects involving legal, business, and technology stakeholders. Develops and maintains standard operating procedures and best practice documentation.
3. Evaluates and recommends enhancements to existing, or new, legal technology solutions (e.g., billing, matter management, contract lifecycle management (CLM), etc.). Oversees and trains legal department on legal technology and drives optimal utilization and integration. Drives digital transformation initiatives within the legal department. Stays current on legal operations trends and emerging technologies and provides updates and recommendations to Legal Department leadership on both from time to time.
4. Serves as the primary Legal Department stakeholder for the CLM. Regularly trains Legal Department professionals and organizational business owners on the CLM. Regularly evaluates CLM workflows for efficiency and optimal throughput. Enhances existing, and builds new, CLM workflows as necessary.
5. Oversees billing and related administration relationships with outside counsel and legal service providers. Oversees legal department budgeting, tracking, and reporting.
6. Develop dashboards and reporting mechanisms for legal department performance. Analyzes legal expenditures, matter trends, and operational metrics. Provides data-driven insights to support decision-making. Creates reports and presentations for Legal Department leadership.
7. Oversees and manages service of process, Legal Department recordkeeping and related Legal Department processes, support functions and practices.
8. Builds and leads the legal operations team. Mentors and develop team members. Fosters a culture of excellence, performance, accountability, continuous improvement, and innovation. Collaborates with legal professionals within the Legal Department and business owners across the organization.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must possess an education and/or experience equivalent to bachelor's degree.
Requires 5-10 years of progressive experience in legal operations, law firm management, or related operational roles including 3-5 years of leadership/management experience.
Proven track record of implementing legal technology and process improvements and experience managing budgets and vendor relationships. Strong project management and organizational skills, excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Proficiency with legal technology platforms and tools, advanced skills in data analysis and reporting, outstanding communication and stakeholder management capabilities, innovative thinking, change management competency, financial acumen and budget management experience, and the ability to work collaboratively across departments and levels.
Performance at a rapid pace, often involving independent analysis expertise, while using extreme discretion, working within legal and administrative deadlines.
Computer word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software proficiency.
Residence in Arizona (including with re-location); hybrid weekly office presence.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
CLOC (Corporate Legal Operations Consortium) membership or certification.
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
Experience in corporate healthcare industry.
Experience with Lean Six Sigma or similar process improvement methodologies.
Knowledge of legal department benchmarking and industry standards.
Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
