Position: Legal Assistant

Location: Chicago, IL

Plunkett Cooney is seeking a skilled Legal Assistant to join our Chicago IL office. This position will provide overflow support to attorneys and legal staff across multiple practice areas, including title insurance, banking, insurance defense, and general litigation. The Legal Assistant will play a key role in supporting a fast-paced legal team, ensuring the timely preparation of documents and efficient case management across a variety of matters.

To be considered, a candidate must have:

  • Five to seven years of litigation experience.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: banking, bankruptcy, title insurance, insurance coverage, insurance defense, and general litigation.
  • Strong skills in legal document preparation, file management, scheduling, billing, and telephone coverage.
  • Familiarity with state and federal electronic court filing (e-filing).
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local court rules.
  • Experience with document management system, preferably iManage.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office such as Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities while producing high-quality work under tight deadlines.
  • Experience in calendaring all case deadlines, including calendaring case management orders, depositions and court appearances.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and maintain a high level of professionalism and discretion.
  • Ability to collaborate with other colleagues, including legal assistants, paralegals, and attorneys in a professional service environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with legal billing software and time entry systems.
  • Banking, bankruptcy, title insurance, insurance coverage, insurance defense, and general litigation experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to review and proofread legal documents.
  • Experience in coordinating court filings and communication with court personnel.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Be proactive, reliable and capable of working independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
