Job description

Through these programs, we empower the people we work alongside to build powerful communities.

The roles and responsibilities of the Preschool Assistant Teacher will promote early education to our most needed communities.
  • The Preschool Assistant Teacher is responsible for partnering with the classroom team to provide developmentally and culturally appropriate lesson plans for the classroom.
  • As the part of the classroom team, the Preschool Assistant Teacher works with the team to effectively manage the classroom environment.
  • Promotes recognition, acceptance and positive interactions among children, families and staff in the classroom.
  • Completes and facilitates lesson plans in cooperation with the classroom team.

The full time Preschool Assistant Teacher will be a position in partnership with Early Childhood Education directly impacting the West Town neighborhood.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Preschool Assistant Teacher is responsible for partnering with the Lead Preschool Teacher to actively facilitate the education, care and general development of the children following DCFS licensing, NAEYC, and Head Start performance standards. 
Travel: No travel required; on site work

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associates degree in Early Childhood Education.
  • Illinois Gateways ECE credential level 4.
  • Bilingual/bicultural Spanish preferred.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Criminal, Child Abuse and Neglect and Sex Offender background checks mandatory.

Qualifications:
  • AA in ECE (Early Childhood Education or Child Development. 
  • Must obtain an Illinois Gateway ECE credential level 4 within 6 months of Employment.
  • Experience working in licensed day care center.
  • Bilingual/bicultural Spanish preferred.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Physical constraints required include but are not limited to: the ability to lift and carry children and other items weighing up to 50 pounds, for purposes such as lifting a hurt child or lifting a child for the safety evacuation of the building during emergencies.
  • Must be able to sit on the floor for extended periods of time. 
  • Demonstrates the following qualities: self-motivated, self-directed, follows directions, makes good judgments, creative, reliable, and dependable.
  • Exhibits sincere interest in working with children and is knowledgeable regarding children's development and growth.
  • Ability to respond immediately to any emergency situation.
  • Provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States
  • Upon offer of employment, must complete all forms related to hiring, including Erie’s application and employment status. Must provide three letters of recommendation. In addition, must complete all DCFS licensing forms, including a criminal background check, fingerprinting, and a child abuse and neglect background check.
