About the Role:
NKU's Center for Integrative Natural Science and Mathematics seeks part time faculty to teach Integrative Natural Science course. This is an introductory level course that covers topics in biology, chemistry, physics, geology, and environmental science.
Purpose
  • The Center for Integrative Natural Science and Mathematics at Northern Kentucky University seeks part time faculty to teach an integrative natural science course. This is a 5 contact-hour per week course with twice-a-week combined lecture and laboratory sessions. It covers biology, chemistry, physics, geology, and environmental science topics. . The course develops students' understanding of the scientific method as a tool for inquiry and problem-solving, with emphasis on basic statistical and graphical analysis, critical thinking, and information literacy. It aims to help give students a broad appreciation of how natural sciences interact to form the world around us. The course is required for Elementary Education majors and also fulfills general education requirements.

Primary responsibilities
  • Responsibilities include teaching one or more sections of Integrative Natural Science (SCI 110), including all responsibilities of teaching a college course. We especially require faculty to teach during regular business hours and during both fall and spring semesters. This is a 5-contact hour, 4-credit hour, integrated lecture-laboratory course.
  • The faculty member will work with the SCI 110 course coordinator in supplies and equipment and report to the director of CINSAM.

Qualifications
  • Master's degree or minimum of 18 hours graduate work in a natural science discipline (biology, chemistry, physics, geology, environmental science or related discipline)
  • Ability to teach an integrative natural science class that covers biology, chemistry, physics, geology, and environmental science at an introductory college level - with support from an experienced course coordinator
  • Teaching experience
