What does a leasing coordinator do?

A Leasing Coordinator is responsible for managing the administrative and communication tasks involved in leasing properties. This includes coordinating property showings, processing applications, preparing lease agreements, and acting as a liaison between property owners, tenants, and property managers. They ensure that all leasing documentation is accurate and compliant with regulations, and help streamline the move-in and move-out process. Leasing Coordinators play a key role in supporting the leasing team and maintaining positive tenant relations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a leasing coordinator?

To thrive as a Leasing Coordinator, you need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a background in property management or real estate, often supported by a high school diploma or relevant certification. Familiarity with property management software (like Yardi or AppFolio), CRM systems, and Microsoft Office is typically required. Excellent communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills help you effectively interact with tenants, landlords, and team members. These abilities ensure smooth leasing operations, high tenant satisfaction, and efficient handling of leasing processes.

They often coordinate marketing efforts with agents and provide updates on unit availability, application status, and leasing targets. This collaborative environment requires strong organizational and interpersonal skills, as the Leasing Coordinator helps keep the leasing process running smoothly and ensures a positive experience for both tenants and the property team.
